Default Window Icing

Don't know if this has been discussed yet, I'm new to the site. I bought an
'05 Conv. and live by the beach. We get a lot of freezing ran or rain then
a quick freeze. Twice now I've gone out in the morning and the window
will be frozen so it can't drop down then go back up when you open the door. You can open the door but when you close it the window is flexed and
there is a big gap. First 2 times it happened I ran a thin piece of metal along
the weather stripping at the bottom of the window and got it to work. Tonight I am putting a piece of plastic over the window in hopes of keeping it dry. I tried slightly cracking the window but it is either open to much or closes
automatically when you close the door. Short of pulling the fuse is there and
over ride to keep the window slightly cracked? Anyone else had to deal
with this issue?

I heard it was an issue on them before I even bought one. I keep a tiny plastic scraper in the trunk so I can break up the ice without having to open the side door and stress everything. It's working great so far, no cold weather to speak of yet and it's mid January.

This might sound weird but it should work. Make sure you have like armorall or something like that on the rubber. Then take a rag with a small amount of WD-40 on it and wipe it on the top side of the glass only and your rear window. Enough to have a barrer between the glass and the rubber. The glass and the rubber on your pt can't ice up together because the WD-40 is oil based and won't freeze. You window should open before you open your door. Hope this helps

There is a TSB on the 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible. I think this is it, TSB 23-017-06 Window frozen to belt line weather strip. My dealer could not find it and said there was no TSB. I have to bring it back again. What a pain.

Being new to the PT vert, I've experienced this in my new to me 05. I thought it was just a part of a convertible in winter. I've got to go to the dealer (transfer warranty), I'll mention this service bulletin.

THANKS,

Mike

i always keep a spray can of de-icer handy for situations like this. just a quick blast will unstick frozen door glass, windshield wipers, stuck doors, you name it. for 98cents at walmart, how could you go wrong.

Being in the Northeast ....we do get a bit of ice....I know it is a pain but I throw a car cover over my PT at night .....it seems to help with the solid freeze we see on the doors & glass....I only do this when bad weather is expected.
