Been look at buying a second PT. Currently have 05 Touring, Black.
Can not understand why prices for 05 with more miles is 2K to 5K more than a an 07. Is it the ugly material on seats, the front end, or problems with the model year? Any ideas |

Welcome.
Look at features. I don't think the '07 you have a price for has all the features of the '05 you're pricing. Remote locking, for example.

I think maybe the 05s are a little higher because they have more stuff on them--and they are what PT lovers really want. When my purple PT was wrecked ('05), I didnt want a 2008 (I could have gotten a base 2008 for what I paid for my 2004 Limited Platinum Series) and went to the older ones. I hate the new PTs, with their ugly upholstery, towel bar and weird grille. And the stupid lil spoiler--what is that? The 05s and older are so much nicer, if you find a good one (and I did). The only thing that the new ones have that mine does not is better iPod and phone connectivity. But they have not so nice wheels, and a remuddled design that I don't like. I think I am not the only PT owner who feels that way, which may be keeping the demand up for the older ones?

As a twice 2006 owner, I don't particularly like the before 2006 front end look. And, my wife likes the towel rack, as she is always grabbin' for some security. As for the 'lil Lip spoiler...what 'lilLip?

Basic & Touring only have a lil (1 1/2") lip on the back for a spoiler. Limited & GT have REAL spoilers.

So why did you make the sooner cruiser look more like an 05 and older in the front end--it sure doesn't resemble the 06 anymore! BTW, it is very cool--I am just saying that a lot of people did not like the look of the redesign and thought Chrysler really made a mess of it. And they *did* strip off a lot of features in 06.

The ugly bumpers of the earlier PT's is enough for me to not want one, regardless of what else they have. |

The PTeazer front end on soonercruiser was just done as part of making her one "Very Unique" Cruiser!

I never even considered a PT Cruiser until they redesigned them in 06. I prefer modern with a retro touch, not just plain old with those afterthought looking bumpers. The new 06+ also have better sound deadening and most of the issues that plagued or nagged 2000-2005 owners were ironed out. The new ones have much more potential for a VIP treatment to get more of a luxury car look.
Back to the original question, I don't know why they're cheaper but I have noticed it as well. My 07 was $13K brand new and a Seargent I was talking to last week ... his wife bought a slightly used 07 for $10.5K. I've seen 06 stick shifts with under 20K miles for under $10K. The Consumers Reports for 06+ is MUCH better than 00-05. The seat material ain't pretty, but at least it's fairly monotone ... so it doesn't jump out at you. |
