I have a different window problem, most noticeable on my drivers side front window.

When raising the window all the way with switch, when it is fully up, it seems the motor is just "trying" to raise it a little more for a second, as if the glass is not seated properly but it is. I believe it even tries if I already released the up switch.

I have seen this now and then for the life of my car which is 2+ years and 8000 miles. Since no other problems developed I guess it's not serious; just something weird I cant understand.

I'll be darned. The suggestion to remove the negative cable for five minutes worked. Not only was power to the windows restored, but my non-operating convertible top came back to life. Who'd a thunk? Saved quite a few bucks, and since this is my daughters' car, made me a hero too. I had to register to this service just to thank whoever posted this suggestion.

Amazing what a little restart of the computer will do. It's like a problem at home. Reboot and everything goes back to normal. Worked a hundred different times for me.

Thank's Turbozak. I had the same problem after jump starting the car.
I looked a long time for the fuse and found your thread:
A 10 minutes battery disconnection cured the problem

When I went to open the windows the windows where not working and the power top would not come down. The smart windows got a glitch, no you may not need to go to the dealer for them to reset it.
This is what I did with some experimenting.
1) First charge your battery in the car,
2) disconnect the battery lead to the battery
3) while waiting 5 minutes clean your terminals on battery
4) check your fluids, tire pressure and filter Just for the heck of it
5) reconnect terminals on your battery
6) get in car and gently close the door, the window as you know will be up to high, but this will trick your smart windows to think its in normal position with the door close
7) start your car and hopefully it as booted up to normal.
I did find the first time I did disconnect the battery for a few seconds , this did not work,
it did not clear the memory out of the system.
The other thing was the when I waited 5 minutes the radio station memory was not lost.
Don't rush it,
Good luck and please give me some feed back.

Same problem with power windows and top quitting after winter storage and recharging a dead battery. The only thing I did different was I disconnected both battery cables and rubbed them together, this dischages the capacitors and resets the the window module , according to a electrician friend of mine . It worth try and doesn't cost anything, as a side note it also seemed to fix my rear view mirror compass and temp gauge .

I could have saved allot of time and gone to this forum first --- anyway IT WORKED!!! Thanks -- After the top and windows stopped operating on my 2005 PT Conver - I eventually followed the advise here disconnected the battery for 30 min hooked it back up and everything is fine --- I am sure the dealer would have done the same thing at no cost ---- right?????

After the winter - not driving - the battery died - and the top and windows stopped working --- thought I blew a fuse when I jumped the car -- nope --- all is good and it is nice to cruise again with the top down.... thanks for the 411

I would suggest that this thread be stickied, since it seems to happen a lot and the fix seems to work virtually 100% of the time...

I have a 2005 Convertible. My drivers side front window will not go up. A few times last week it would only go up an inch or two at a time. I ordered a used replacement switch. In the meanwhile, I lubricated the regulator and the tracks. I hope that fixes it.

Good news. I ordered a used switch from justparts.com. I figured for $30, I would give it a shot. Plugged it in and everything works. Saved $100 from ordering from the dealer. Go to love it.
