OK, my Front Door Speakers are BLOWN in my 2005 TURBO Touring Edition Convertible and since I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow, I need to know RIGHT AWAY, what Size Speakers to Buy for the Front Doors, I'm Buying a Pair of Pioneer 2-Way Speakers, so let me know ASAP what will fit like the Factory Speakers and if I'll need an Adapter or something?????
I've been trying to look this up Online ALL DAY, but keep getting different answers, so I dunno...? My Dash and Rear Panel Speakers sound GREAT, so as of right now, I only need to replace the Front Door Speakers, HECK, I might even just stick with the Factory CD Player as well, since it sounds pretty good to actually, well, at least until I get a little extra Cash, so I can replace the Head-Unit as well, but we'll see, for right now though, I just need help with the Door Speakers, so THANKS A LOT in advance!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() James C. |

The front are 6 3/4 and the rear are 6x9...
I learned the hard way on the rear speakers... as everything crutchfield, circuit city and best buy said, stated it took a 6x8 in the rear... which are now in my garage, in the box and unused! If your looking to make your vert stereo sound good... You need a sub! I have 3 way pioneers in the front and rear now (along with the stock dash tweeter) and it's got plenty of high notes but don't expect ANY thump! I am also using a JVC HD stereo... HDRD1 or something like that is the model number but not 100% as I'm at work... My eventual plan is a 10 in the trunk when I get the time and cash... (I'm not looking to rattle the house a block away, just to round the music out).

ok so first of all I am fairly new to the interwebs so be nice.
so I bought a '06 silver pt cruiser gt convertible BRAND NEW(!!) last August. it only had 53 test drive miles on it. I always wonder why they didn't sell it for 3 years... I saved over $12k on the car, as it was only $500 more than an '06 kelley blue book convertible 06 with over 40k miles. why not, right? Love the car. but more importantly, I'm a huge car audio junky. I can't install much on these new plastic toys because I don't wanna break something, so I pay to get it all done. I have an Alpine CDA-9886 cd player, a single JL AUDIO W7 10" subwoofer, an Orion HCCA-D2400 amplifier for the sub, a legacy blue 3.0 farad capacitor and an Optima yellow top Battery, to help power it all... I should be golden, right? WRONG! damn it! the lights always dim, the amp cuts out and blinks for 10-15 seconds and comes back on frequently, the cap always gets down to 12.xx as I'm driving, and the cd player first loses quality, and then just shuts itself off after about 30 minutes of driving. a minute or two later it turns back on and sounds great, but at five minute intervals it keeps turning off. I even bought 250 amp anl fuses to replace the original 100 amp one just incase that was the problem. what do you guys think this is? could it be the alternator?? if it is, where do I find one for the 2006 gt model? I looked online and can only find ones for the wagon models, not the gt. this probably isn't even the right place to ask this question, but I don't know where else to go. hopefully someone reads this and figures out what my problem is... car problem that is, don't psychanalyze the rest of me! oh and why I was even motivated to find this place is because I want to buy new speakers to swap out my factory ones. I really have my heart set on the Alpine type R series. Or another top of the line yet affordable brand. Will someone please make it simple for me and tell me exactly which model numbers I need for the front and rear speakers. for the front, I definately want component speakers. I'm not a big fan of Polk Audio so please don't suggest those. I'm going to have either ultimate electronics or Best Buy install them. If anyone out there on the Interwebs can help me, I'd be forever indebted. PS. My convertible top also refuses to go all the way down, so it goes down far enough that I can drive with it, but I can't see anything but the cover in my rearview mirror and I drive during morning rush hour and that just seems too dangerous to drive that way. Which sucks because this is perfect weather for convertible in the arizona desert. But when I bought the car, it was "NEW" so it should/better be under warranty. -Signed Owner of PT CRUISER from Hell REACT TO ME! |

okay, so not sure why everyone says there is issues with the light flickers and all...
I decided to install a sub into my microscopic trunk... I got a steal on a 10" rockford fosgate sub ($45, new at best buy), then $25 for a sealed box, and went with a cheap old DUAL amp (600w peak for $55 at walmart)... Single bridged for a steady 300w... I put some serious volume on and I don't have any issues with the lights flickering... Sub is wired direct to the battery on a fused power lead and ground to the trunk...

Yes I know this thread is dead, but thought I would offer my insight so any future people that use the search can find some info.
In my '05 PT Cruiser convert, the front speaker blew after only 25k miles. On one of them the actual speaker magnet fell off. Since the original speakers are a non standard size (6 1/2" round), i wanted to replace them with 5 1/4" standard speakers. I thought I would have to devise some custom mounts to use 5 1/4" speakers. To my amazement, the original speakers used a plastic speaker frame and guess what, a 5 1/4" speaker will fit inside the bolting flange of the 6 1/2" stock speaker. Just cut out everythign on the original speaker other than the bolting flange and lip (before the speaker frame starts to connect to the speaker magnet). Then you can use the original 6 1/2" speaker flange to bolt to the stock speaker location and screw the new 5 1/4" speaker to the whats left of the original plastic speaker frame. This may not make much sence, but once you see the original speakers, it will. And this will save you lots of money as the original speaker size is un-common and thus more money. |

Not starting a war here but are you serious... a 6.5 speaker is a very common speaker... $39.86 at walmart... Pioneer 6.5 (2 ways)... Walmart.com: Pioneer 6.5" 2-Way Speakers, 180 Watts Max Power Handling: Auto Electronics Your more then welcome to get the lesser sound from the 5.25 speakers, and pay the same price... Or you can look and find them EASILY and have the better sound, and not have the headache of whatever cutting he is refering to... I understand your offering an option, but you make it sound as if a 6.5" speaker is a special order only size... Run to walmart, sitting on the shelf waiting is the CORRECT size for your PT...

They say it takes a 6 3/4 not a 6.5 so that may be the issue he is reffering to that makes the speaker harder to source.
In most stereo shops we use installtion rings to get a nice tight fit in these cases. Yes a ring can be bought to sit a 6.5. He simply stated that if you GUT the OEM speaker for its basket you can use it to sit a smaller speaker without shelling out extra cash on fitment rings. GREAT JOB. Save $. Yes smaller speaker means smaller sound but on a budget and left over speakers why not. Most older people just want AM radio and some stereo music. So LOUD larger sound is not an issue. As for the ODD size. Thanks CHRYSLER. LMAO |
