2005 PT GT convertible door handle peeling

The driver's side outside door handle on my 2005 is peeling, well kinda lifting and creasing. Has anyone else had this problem?
I don't suppose it is covered by any warranty or recalls?

the chrome on my 2001 is still great.

Would anyone know if the door handles from a sedan are the same as a convertible? I am referring to the outside door handles

Not positive, but I can't believe Chrysler would have paid to have two different styles of door handles.

Hey their dsmturbo,

Welcome to the Forum. Yes the door handles are the same on both the Vert, and the hard top PT's. I have not heard as of yet of any problems, but their is most definitely a first time for everything. My guess is that either the handle wasn't prepped right by Chrysler, or more likely something just got up under an edge, and compromised the under surface of the part. The handles are made from a hard Polycarbonate Plastic dipped in a thin coat of chrome so if the surface was compromised, it wouldn't take much to get them bubbling up, or flaking off, etc.

My best advice would be to definitely hit up the Dealer first for it being a defective part. If no luck their, I would then probably try hitting up a wrecking yard in your area and find one for somewhere around $25 - $35 and then if need be, I can walk you through replacing it.

Much appreciated Candy, yes dealer just shrugged and said basically, too bad, so sad LOL

So, I will try and hunt one down. I am new to this area so have to check out some wreckers and see if I can find one relatively cheap.

I may take you up on offer of swapping it out...that is awesome.

BTW, asked dealer re: GT factory floor mats, I almost shit $320 CDN

Oh and the handle was like $135.00 or so

One of the handles on our 2001 was like that and I got one for $30 off of ebay.Pretty easy to change.You can use a back handle also,just a screw in a different place that you have to change.We just got a 2001 for parts in at the local U-pull-it,I'll check and see if there is one on it.

I have called a few recycled yards in and around my area....and lucked out on the one that is three hours away ! Road trip, here I go !!
