Top repair

I've discovered a very small tear in the leading edge of our convert top. I'd like to try to glue it down before putting a sealent on the top. Has anyone fixed a small rip, and what type of glue/sealant did you use. The tear is only about 1/4 " square.

I had a Cavalier convertible that had a rip in the top and the top was also separating at the back window. I used GE clear silicone II to glue it all together. Worked great for as long as I owned the car. You just have to be careful not to use too much of the stuff.

Thanks, that's a great idea. It's a really small rip, but I know if I don't do something with it now, it will only get worse.

Then, go to an art supply store, like Hobby Lobby, and get some silicone paints - mix your own color match for touch-up over the repair.

Hello there and sorry end up reviving this thread again (forgive me for that). Just have a question. I have the same problem with my 2001 PT and i found out a small tear just near the window. Im planning to fix it using a sealant. Where can i find the brand that you've been talking? I searched it in some sites like ebay but it seemed difficult to find. could you give be the link that will direct to the product.

We took it to a repair shop here in Cleveland that specializes in interior trim scratch repair and also leather repair. They repaired some deep scratches in various interior trim pieces that looked like new when done. He also put some sealer on the tear that still looks good even with the winter weather. You can tell there was a repair there, but it's all sealed down flat.

I'm not sure what he used, but the company name is DuraMend at 216-398-9001. They may be able to tell you what type of sealer they would use on a canvas top tear. Hope this helps.

They are talking about tears in convertible tops and you say you have one in your 2001 vert???

As far as the clear silicone sealant goes---shut off your computer and drive down to your nearest hardware store.

Odd, you've got those links listed and one of them is "top repair", but you're asking us about top repair---you seem to be fishing---are you catching anything?

2001 PT Convertable? No such thing, first one came out in February 2004 as a 2005. I have the second one in Canada, and I got mine in February 2004.
