Question Headliner sticks in top at first fold?

So, having just bought my PT, I have noticed something. I've been in a couple of Verts while shopping around, but never noticed this. Not sure if it's just this car....But anyhow....when you put the top down and then bring it back up, the headliner sticks in the top at the first fold. I can put the top back a bit and pull it out, but it just does it again the next time.

Is there something wrong with the headliner? I can't tell if it's supposed to be secured there or not. I will take a pic and post when I get home, but I thought I'd throw this out there for now. I don't want the headliner to get ruined, and you can already see where it's caught.

Any ideas?

Check with your dealer where you bought it, it should have at least a 30 day warranty.

Mine does the same; I raise the top most of the way (about two inches from close) in order to open the latch and pull out the liner befiore closing the rest of the way.

Hooligan: nope, no warranty. I got a screaming deal on the car, and they fixed several things included in the purchase price, but the car was as-is.

delrosen: thanks, I was wondering if others did the same, but I couldn't really find any info on it. I guess I will just keep pulling it out everytime, unless anyone has any other suggestions!

Cool Re: Headliner sticks in top at first fold?

jedigirl,
Sounds like the head liner has gone to the "Dark Side"!

How old is the PT?
If it is a little older, the heat & weather have probably caused the liner to get somewhat stiff, versus pliable.
I would take delrosen's advice, and just baby it.
A new top will run you $500 for parts only.
Welcome to the forum.
(My 2006 GT vert top still works like a charm)

soonercruiser:

It's an 06, and it's definitely not stiff, it's almost like it's supposed to be secured somewhere along there and it's not. I don't think she had the best of care before, so anything is possible!

My '06 did the same thing from the day I bought it last August. Since I could reach up and pop it out I didn't think it was a big deal. My car had a few month's factory warranty left on it and I mentioned it to my dealer as a part of let's-get-everything-documented-before-the-warranty-expires service visit. They replaced the headliner.

If I had to pay for that, I would not have had it replaced but I would advise checking with a local top shop to see if it could be adjusted.

My 05 Vert top sticks in the same place, I just pull it out with my finger, sounds like a common fault, just adds to the charm of the car.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! I have a friend who does body work and the like, I will probably see if there's anything he can suggest, but more than likely I will just continue to pull it out when I raise it. A small annoyance, but she's worth it.
