Default Good performance tires?!?

Approaching 50k on my wife's 2005 Dreamcruiser convertible with the high output turbo and it's time for new shoes.

While we love the car, we have been hoping to improve on the loss of traction and tire hop when coming away hard from a dead stop.

Can anyone recommend a good performance tire for our car that's good at the hole shot? (There's a Saab Turbo down the street that I'm looking to take down a peg)

Winter driving is not an issue since it essentially gets garaged from Thanksgiving to St Patrick's Day. Price is also not a huge issue. If it takes $350/tire to get it running the way we like, so be it.

Of course if there's a cheaper option that delivers similar results, that's always welcome.

I know there are other similar threads, but they are old and many of the links don't work anymore, so I though I'd start fresh..

2002 Durango 5.9 R/T. Cherry Red. Full time AWD, Infinity Sound, K&N intake.

Cool Re: Good performance tires?!?

With a turbo, from a stop, it will be hard to lighten the BIG FOOT enough to not get some hop.
I am at 24K, and have always gotten some hop - especially in the summer when the pavement is hot.
On soonercruiser, I've had got results with the Kumho SPTs, and have the Falken Ziex 912s on now.
Check out the options at
If you want better grip & performance, you might not get the 50K you got out of the first set of tires.

I run the Falkens o n mine as well and there great. For wheel hop put some inserts in the upper/lower mounts if they are not torn allready or if your manual, solid motor mounts.

I bought Michelin HydroEdges based on several recommendations from this forum. I am extremely happy with them. Going into my second winter and can hardly tell they have any wear on them.

Any good name tire is going to perform the same unless your looking to drag race it.

I just a few weeks ago, put on the new Tiger Paw AS65's - like em. Big difference from the Yoko's that was on it, much better ride and excellent grip.

I'm running the Ziex 912's and need to replace them after 20k miles but that's because I use them on the track, on the road course, and on the street. I love the buggers. I've had three different varieties on this baby and the 912's have been my favorite.

Great out of the hole, if you try not to spin, but wet them with 50/50 water and bleach and light them up, you'll smoke out the neighborhood. Then take them while they are sticky and run the Tail of the Dragon a few times! The slightly stiffer sidewall really helps in cornering!!!

Going next week to get my second set of Falkens!!!

I originally put 225/50/R16 Toyo High Performance Tires on 16 x 7 American Eagle 192's- 5 spoke mags, I got very good traction & handling from this combo.

The last time someone told me something about tires, I was told that goodyear, and Michelin where super tires!

I don't know if the same is still true.
I have a brand called Nankang, and am pretty happy with them!
The only con was that the thickest part on the tire was pinched by a screw. I've never seen a screw penetrate a tire through the thickest part of the profile.

But then again, they're the cheapest tires on the market...
