Default Hot A/C Panel

I'm new to this, but the A/C Panel on my '04 cruiser is real hot to the touch. When I first noticed this problem I was on the road for about an hour and a half and still had another 2 more hours of driving. My first thought was to see if the engine may be getting hot, but that wasn't the case.

It is a '04 convertible with about 45K mi. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you, by any chance, have the headlights on? I ask this because another owner was asking about the HAVC panel being hot and it turned out that the lights that light up the knobs make the knobs hot to the touch. We found out that it was normal.

Forgive me, but that sounds FAR from normal. It doesn't happen on our 05 and I haven't heard one other person complain about it. That sounds like a fairly serious situation....

Still, that's a problem, not 'normal'.
