Default Convertible Trunk Lid...Ridiculous!

Ok; here's the thing...I like my convertible Cruiser it is a nice lil car, but there is one thing I can't stand about it......The TRUNK LID! I hate the way it opens. I think this was the dumbest design eeeeever! Instead of opening UP like a hatch. It should open DOWN like a truck deck lid. It would make it much easier to get things in and out of the trunk. With it like it is; a person has to duck way to far to reach to get things in and out. I have hit my head too many times because of this poor design.

Am I the only person that feels this way?

Looks like you may be the only one that hates the deck lid. I will admit it is a small lid that does kind of get in the way, but most convertible owners like there PT so much that it is a small annoyance only. I find the trunk space huge for a convertible so having to use a smaller deck lid is a non issue for me and my wife. Sorry to hear you dislike yours so much.

I thought the same thing when I saw the convertible - should be like a pickup tailgate, not a mini-hatch.

The 05 is the worst the 06 & 07 I looked at seem to go up a little higher [very little]. It was a big deal to me, I just could not see me pulling a bushel of peaches or 25 pounds of dog out of it. And groceries are a real pain. But I love the car so I use the back seat allot or the work van. Before I bought it I looked for mods like tailgate, gate, suicide hinges anything but I haven't ever found anything. I was thinking the gate style on most suv's would work well but anything would be better than the half lift. Even if it would open the whole way. Maybe 06 hinge would be better. If you do find a mod to the lift gate please post.

I can agree with the way the trunk opens we have one in the shop right now. Believe we are looking into a reverse opening option.

One other thing I dislike is there is no trunk release button on the lid itself like on the regular PT models. My parents have one on their Cruiser and so does my sister. We who have convertibles have to use the fob button or the lock on the door.

I don't know about the hatches on the hardtops but with my jeep it always locked when you got to 15 mph and my PT is the same, so you can't just open it anyhow. I really like the button in the glove box.

I don't want to have to reach into the glove box to open the trunk. After I got the car; I almost pulled my arm out of its socket trying to open it thinking it had a release under the emblem handle on trunk lid like my parents does. I thought maybe the button was broken, so I called my dealership and was then told that these models don't have a button. All of them should be the same no matter what design.

OMG I wish you hadn't posted this. Now I'm going to go talk to a friend of mine at one of the local race shops and see about reversing my trunk lid mounting and make it more of a tailgate type.... omg that would be so cool.... gotta get out the photoshop now and see what I can do....
