Default Altezza & other after-market/custom Tail Lights

I know many PT owners have swapped out their tail lights for customs, and myself, I'm on my fourth set. Each set changed because I changed the look of the car. I've had three sets of Altezza's on the back end now, and all three have had the very same problem - really crappy fitment.

First I called and spoke at length with Maggie of Race and Street, as that's where I buy just about everything for my PT. She put me in touch with a gentleman who had installed Altezza's on his vert and had to do some minor body work to make them fit.

Well, I'm posting this thread to see if anyone else out there has made any modifications to make your custom or after-market tail lights. I am going to modify mine to fit better, as I don't like the fact that water is always getting inside my fender well because these fit so poorly. I'm going to post some photos I've taken of them, and then I'm going to try out some modifications and post back here on how they turn out.

If you have done any work to make your's fit, please post here what you did/tried. Me, I've got problems now with my paint as it's chipped/cracked around the tail light opening from making so many mods to make the lights fit. I'll have to get it stripped and painted eventually, but for now I'm just going to clean it up and do some temp paint patchwork.

Now I don't have photos of all the tails I've installed because the earlier one's I just thought would last me forever. When I installed my first LED lights, I started documenting them for historical sake.

I'll post some pics here of my issues, maybe you guys might have some suggestions....

Default Re: Altezza & other after-market/custom Tail Lights

Chromenut,

As I've said on many different threads, I've gone through 6 sets of different taillights on my cruiser. NONE of them fit right except the original lights the PT came with. What I ended up doing with some of them was buy a roll of chrome "U" shaped door edge and put that all the way the edge to take up the gap and make them fit better. That only works well when you have other chrome on the car and you and I have no problem with that.

Of all the hundreds of photos I have in Photobucket, I don't have them with all the different lights but this photo shows it pretty well with the newest lights and the chrome strip around the outer edge.

The chrome strip doesn't work around the edge of a black taillight so what I did was paint the surrounding edge of the hole with black paint. It doesn't make the light fit better but it makes the gap sort of disappear becuase it matches the light.

Thumbs up Re: Altezza & other after-market/custom Tail Lights

"Perfect" is a fantasdy.
But, I was very happy with the TYC fitment on the 2006 soonercruiser.
And, I have been extremely happy with the fit of the Bermuda Blacks on the 2006 GT vert, and 2010 Couture Ed.
