Red face Safety feature on vert shut off the top...how to reset? Please

UGH!
I believe this problem is my own doing...hehe
While I was rolling to a stop light, I decided to begin putting the top of my '05 PT cruiser down so I would have enough time. Immediately, it stopped! It refused to open. I later read in the manual that there is a safety feature that will stop the vert top from functioning if going 10mph or more. Is there a way to clear this?

Side note: everything else is working just fine.
I can hear the motor running; it isn't moving the top in either direction.

What I have tried so far:
Battery disconnect after checking fuses under engine. Disconnected for 30 mins and...nothing.

Disconnected battery overnight and....Nothing!

Once reconnected, manually moved the top with the screw located in the trunk.
Took it down then back up. Tried it automatically....nothing

I took it for a drive, after the over night disconnect, to see if warming up the engine would help with the reset and...nothing!
*Strange thing...all my radio setting are still there. Wouldn't a battery disconnect reset everything? Especially an overnight disconnect?

Today, I'm going to check the inner fuse box, particularly the power window fuse located at the top 20A, I believe (read that on here)-thank you

Can't go back to dealer because, I bought it from a friend.
She says she has never had a problem with the vehicle and before I purchased it I took it to get serviced. They didn't see anything alarming except the need for new rotors and L wheelbearing.

Also, MIL is flashing when key is turned to ON. I never noticed it before this incident. Could it be from the top?
I tried turning key to ON and back off 3 times, within 5 seconds, and nothing. I did it twice, and there weren't any error codes displayed

Please help before I pay to get a diagnostic...UgH!
Thank you so much, HawaiiBaby

Well hi welcome the forum, where have you been?

Hopefully you are not just coming here for advice to fix your pt and then forget about us.

That bothers me, why not join, learn, listen, laugh and love. Share your experiences with your cruiser. Why you bought it

I am old fashioned in that i actually read my owners manual right after I get my cars

Ummm ok.
I bought it this pass Monday bc it looks super cute with the top down.
Next day replaced L wheelbearing then the top stopped working Friday. All this week!
Ride is nice, but kind of loud...turbo engine...expected. Didn't read manual bc I was fairly familiar with car...bought from a friend.

Are you here to help me or condemn me for not being "old fashion" and reading manual before hand?

Nah, just giving you the business

Does your friend know anything about it?

If the motor is working and not moving it might be off track now

there is a bleeder screw in the trunk that allows you to open and close it manually. if it is open now, turn it clockwise and see if it works normally. try opening the screw with it up put the top down and close it. if that does not work, try doing this in the opposite direction. like you're bleeding the air out. if this won't get it working, turning it counterclockwise should allow you to open and close it manually until someone comes along with better advice.

if you hear the motor for the top running, it's not an electrical problem.

i don't have a convertible, so this is the best advice i can give

i found this info here:
Problem with conv top closing

good luck!

-btw the safety feature you're talking about just prevents the switch from operating while the car is in motion. there is nothing to reset

Lightbulb Re: Safety feature on vert shut off the top...how to reset? Please

So, I was messing with the bleeder screw and manually moving the top up and down when I heard a squishing water noise on the driver's side.
I look into the car with the top down and what do I see? A small leak.

I must be leaking hydraulic fluid.

Any advice on DIY fix is appreciated.

No leak into trunk! Thank god.

It's possible that its low on hydraulic fluid. I have this issue on mine and I have not taken the time fix yet. It's so easy to open and close by hand with the screw in trunk in full counterclockwise position I just haven't bothered. Hopefully it's just coincidence that it quit when it did.

Ugh!
The fluid could be low but, the sound has me a bit concerned that it is a small leak.

Also, my MIL light flashes when the key is in the ON position. I finally got the computer to tell me what was wrong and it say DONE. Yay!
But, could the MIL light be on due to low hydraulic fluid?

Thank in advance
