Default Mopar Sub in a PT Convertible

Been having e mail correspondence with Cass Daniels on my sub install.
He suggested:

Quote:
Hi, Steve,
Very good! Two options;
1) Cut a round hole 1 1/2? in diameter behind the magnet (try to put it in the center of the magnet) of the speaker
2) Cut a 2? hole directly behind the magnet of the speaker (try to put it in the center of the magnet) and attach a length of PVC that will end ? to 1? away from the wall of the cargo area.
Thank you,Cass

Bought a 8 in speaker cover.
Use anthracite gray plastic dip for the cover and bracket.

Still not hook up, waiting on new wiring from Cass

So is this a factory Mopar sub made for the 4 door that you modified for the convertible? If so please do a detailed write up of your procedure when you finish. I would be interested in doing this to my convertible.

Yes it was design for the 4 door.

As you can see I cut the the sub and added a piece of pexi glass.
what I had to trim from the side panel

you do not loose any room in the trunk

Back up camera install, ready to wire when I get the new harness for the sub

Also adding a double din head unit / waiting on a new radio bezel from Double D Mods

VNT likes this.

The looks very nice.

I just received my Mopar sub today. Of course, I'm putting it in PT wagon so not near as much work. That's a very clean sub install you did there. Great job.

Curious about you doing the Sub install Handy, thought you just picked up the Cubby door, when installing the sub it occupies that storage area, correct?

I got the cubby door a few weeks ago but may have been in some later photos with other stuff in the back of my PT. It was after that when I decide to go with the sub. And the sub looks very nice. It came still in the original Mopar box with original packaging. The seller only opened the box to add some extra instructions and paperwork. Very very nice. I can't wait to get it installed.

Nice, you still planning on using the retro/aftermarket head unit? I've got an aftermarket unit in mine, but used an adapter so didn't have to splice the factory harness. Curious if it hooks into the stock loom or if you have to hook it up separately.

The sub kit is mostly plug and play. I confused the folks selling these. They asked what year PT I had. I told them I had a 2001 but the stereo was out of 2003. So they didn't know which kit to send me. I told them just send the 2001 kit because I made an adapter to plug into the original harness so it's all still there.

The kit has a "T" wiring adapter that plugs in between the harness plug and stereo. The only splice that has to be made is the power lead that you splice into the ignition controlled cigarette lighter right below the stereo.

So the wiring looks easy. The hard part will likely be removing the twenty rivets that hold the cubby pocket to the car body. The instructions say that these twenty little rivet heads must be cut off with a grinder. Fun, fun ,fun.

PS: The vintage Pioneer KE5100 is not going in the PT. That's being saved for my retirement dream car. One day I'm going to find a nice Olds 442 convertible to fix up and cruise around in when I'm 80. That's where the KE5100 will go.
