Cool Re: Replacing The Convertible Top

I'm a new PT owner. Bought a 06 Turbo. Got a good deal because the top is ripped. I was going to patch but got lucky and found a like new top at the scrap yard. We pulled everything even the motor for it. So frame and all. It was a bitch to get off, took us over 2 hours. I'm wondering if there is an easier way to connect just part of it, then save the left overs for parts. We had to remove so much of the inside of the car to get it out. Don't want to tear mine apart to get it in.

I am wondering if there is an easy way to replace the top without having to actually use the entire frame if that makes sense. I know the framework goes down inside and I'm wondering is it possible to replace just what you see that's above the car so you don't have to take things apart. I have a new top to put on mine that has all the framework already on it but I want to be able to do it as easy and as quickly as possible has anyone ever just undid the bolts on the upper part of the mounting and hooked it on there without replacing the entire frame? Sorry if that doesn't make a lot of sense I'm not sure of the technical names for it.

Your post makes sense, but you need to understand that Chrysler was CHEAP and cut corners everywhere possible. Like down to to saving a penny per car. The only thing I could imagine leaving out would be the stuff that makes it open automatically. I recommend you just suffer through it once, do a good job, and hope it lasts a while.

well they did strip features and remove parts year by year. lights in stwitches, trim round the glovebox, the rear swaybar, etc etc etc. they went as far as to discontinue the fluid my trans took(which is very similar to 5w30 with a synchro additive)and told me to use ATF4 instead because then they save money cutting back on a fluid.

if you don't like it i don't care, and neither did they.

As for the trans fluid in the manual trans, the original fluid that was spec'd was VERY expensive and after hundred of hours on a numerous trans dyno and road miles it was determined that ATF+4 was a very acceptable alternative. Have you had a failure in your trans because of the ATF? Use the 5w30 Mobil 1 or better yet go find the original Mopar trans fluid for that trans then I'll hear you piss and moan that IT COSTS TOO MUCH.... waaa waa waa cry me a flippin river
seems you're the one doing the crying. i did ditch he pt. **** that car. **** you. and **** this forum. sick off all you cranky old assholes. eat a bag of dicks.

ROB302, I need to apologize to you and others on this forum who look at what was posted between you and I. I realize and appreciate your position and understand your opinion of features that were removed for "certain reasons" and I have to agree and with that comes a passion for vehicles one has "worked" on. I took your words too close to heart and shouldn't have. Yes I'm an OLD FART, crochety old bas**rd yet everyday understand other's passion / dislike for their rides. sincerely
