Yes, that is true - but it also must be a 2006 or newer. Starting in the end of July, all new 2006 and newer vehicles were coming with the lifetime warranty for free. If you already own a 2006 or newer, you then can buy that lifetime warranty for the $750 or $950.

Talkie Time I think was just stating that it stinks, because his '05 is only 6 days older than the first '06s. I guess they do need to draw the line somewhere, as to what is included or not.

Sorry to hear it, have you talked with Chrysler at all about it? (Probably a winless battle, but maybe worth a shot?)

Matt

Matt,

Yes, I did call the Chrysler Warranty Department. To them a 2005 is a 2005 and a 2006 is a 2006. That's where they chose to draw the line.

From what I was able to determine (some time ago) the PT assembly line changeover from 2005 to 2006 models required a two to three week manufacturing shutdown, even to implement what seemed to be minor changes.

There were trade offs: I really wanted my PT in Dark Plum (not offered in the 2006 model) and I didn't want any kind of "spoiler." (The "mini-spoiler" was standard on the 2006 probably because all the hatches would be pre-drilled for a spoiler.) Due to the options I wanted I had to get certain equipment packages in a certain model. I wanted a power seat, only to be had on a Touring or higher model. I wanted the four wheel disc brakes, Traction control, and a firmer suspension, so I had to get the Turbo option, only to be had on a Limited or GT. I wanted to get the lighter color interior, driver's seat lumbar adjustment and side air bags so I had to get the leather interior in a package that included equipment I didn't need or want: the moon roof, chrome wheels, and other chrome trim, body side, door sills, lock knobs, and grille.

If I remember correctly the dealer already had detailed ordering information for the 2006 models when I custom ordered my 2005 on May 9, 2005. The dealer explained that May 10, 2005 was the cut-off date for 2005 model custom orders. After May 10, 2005 Chrysler would be "building out" the 2005 PT models where the dealers had little or no say in what models/configurations they would receive. Around six days before my PT arrived Chrysler began the Employee Pricing Plus promotion. That same day I had received in the mail an Exclusive Bonus Coupon (for an additional $500 off) as I had made an earlier Chrysler internet inquiry. These promotions got me a better "deal" than when I originally placed my order. When I took delivery on July 12, 2005, the dealer had more than 125 2005 PTs in stock or on the way, none exactly like mine.
