Classic Car Show Kick-Starts '50s Memories

Hundreds of classic cars from across the Valley were on display Saturday at the Community Church of Joy at 75th Avenue and Loop 101.

Strolling down row after row of automobiles spanning every decade from the 1930s was like taking a walk down memory lane.

The show which began at 9 a.m. and ran until 3 p.m. was the Second Annual 94.5 Kool FM Classic Car Show and was free to the public with a canned food donation for the St. Mary's/Westside Food Bank Alliance.

There were top three awards for every class, which included T-buckets; Street Rod Pro 1938; 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's; stock motorcycles; custom motorcycles; specialty class, truck 1949 to 1973 or newer; Mustangs 1964 to 1974 or newer; Camaro-Firebird; Chevelles; Pro Street; Corvette pre-1972; Corvettes 1972 or newer; PT Cruiser; Import-Sport car; under construction; muscle car; antique classic; best of show; people’s choice; best flames; GTO; Tri-5; and exotic.

Oh yea. We fit in just about everywhere. I've never had a problem squeezing in at any show

Neon,

Yea, probably too many. I'm in 4 car clubs, 2 with the PT, 1 with the Corvette and one with both cars so there's lots of shows I can attend with and without anyone from the clubs. Down here in Florida, car shows go on all year long along with Cruise-ins (4 hours usually at night). I was doing about 3-4 actual shows a month but I've slowed down a little to 2 or 3. Some slowdown because of the heat (it's been around 90 everyday now for the last 5 months) and some because a lot of my shows are in the more populated area of Tampa which is 100 miles south of me. That's 2 hours drive (one way), almost half a tank of gas (one way) plus the entry fee for the show. If I want to cut the driving time, I can take the expressway (toll) but then that's $4.75 (one way) in tolls. It all adds up pretty fast.
