OK..gonna jump inhere and get bashed..what the heck!
I am a retired detective with The Major Crimes Unit..Robbery, Homicide, Sex Crimes that sorta stuff...

In the midst of the crying and whining from the Auto sector, I have been told that these folks (the average worker) are making over $70/hr..I never even got close to $70/hr..how did their wages and the price of vehicles get so out of hand??Union??
If this info is true regarding the wage, why are people that upset..get a reality check folks. Putting a piece of plastic on a vehicle in an assembly line..?? For that kind of money?. It definitely is not the average worker's fault, but how did it get so out of touch with reality

OK go for the bashing..I just want some opinions here..no malice intended!

From what I understand from what I've read, the workers don't make $70 an hour. They make around $28 to $32 an hour for working.

The $70 an hour is what the company pays to have that worker there. This includes wages, retirement, insurance, pensions for the retired, etc.

To add some sarcasm, although it's somewhat true... because of strict union/worker demands, part of that $70 goes to buy 3 different kinds of toilet paper for the bathroom so everyone's happy. And 8 different brands of catsup so everyone can eat. And hot chocolate when it's cold. The workers need new gloves every day instead of wearing them for a few days. The workers take gloves home to work on stuff there. Special this, special that... They just need catered to so much that it's ridiculous.

I wish the all of the Big 3 would close their doors. Greedy SOB's. Let the workers build Toyotas and Nissans instead.

Of course it is only what I have seen on the news but the assembly line-worker- seems to move pretty slow for that 30 bucks an hour, plus all benefits.
I would hate to be in line at Mcdonald for breakfast ,it would be lunch by the time I got it.
Funny ,the more you make the less is expected.

Local ad

Office clerk needed, must be able to do everything as required and more.
Able to work all shifts and overtime-at straight pay.
5 Years experience ,college degree would be an asset.
Competive salary starting at $8.90 per hour

I feel real bad for the auto worker

I'm on neither side but I don't understand why the banks got Billions and won't even say what they are doing with the money (and not a cent helped the middle class and the homeowners) whereas the auto industry has to explain every cent of what they "might do" with it.

We've all heard about AIG who received their money and sent all the upper management on an all expense paid holiday and had another one planned when they were caught. Their excuse: the holiday was planned before all heck broke loose and they lost all the investors money.

I'd also hate to be the one who bought the car that was put together buy the worker that was in a hurry to fit all the parts together. A car goes by on the line every few minutes. One guy takes half that time putting the right door on and waits for the next car, meanwhile down the line a robot puts the dashboard into the car and the guy who has to hook up all the connections has the same amount of time as the guy with the door only he has 10 times the amount of movements to do.

Yeah, the quality of american cars is poor enough without rushing anyone.

Look how hard Ford workers have to work: Video

you all know the sad part is this
If the big three did close there doors I am 100% that the big dogs that are making in the high 6 figures will still get there pay no matter what and the workers who are overpaid will get the shaft---it really is all relative if you are a CEO you are gonna make some huge bucks which goes with the job but man is anybody really worth 4 million a year plus a healthy bonus and a co jet????

Heck I'm in the wrong line of work! I'm a manager in a hospital & at $32 hr they are making nearly twice what I make an hour just for a parts monkey. Screw that!
When the industry bounces back, I'm going to go looking for a job at the GM plant in Arlington.
