Default PT Diesels: we weren't worthy

It seems odd to me how the powers that be at Chrysler decided not to offer the diesel version to us here in the U.S. With Toyota bragging on their Prius hybrid for 2010 maybe being able to get 50 mpg, the diesel PT (from articles I've read) was there or close to it for quite a while. 40 to 45 mpg, a bit more kick in the power dept. and everything else we like about the PT, sheesh what's not to like? Maybe if they would have listened to the people who buy their cars they 1:wouldn't be in the financial shape they are in now and 2:we would still have the PTcruiser. I guess this is a bit of a rant, sorry but I just hate a pencil pushing suit sitting behind a desk try to tell me what I like. Like I said, sorry bout this but I feel better having said it.

1) Diesels haven't caught on in the US the way they have in Europe.
2) They DID offer a diesel for a while in the Jeep Liberty - which also had the same 2.4 L engine as base.
3) Emission laws hurt a lot of diesels - they aren't easy to get certified.

I think they should have done to the PT what BMW did with the MINI - mild redesign, but new engines and slight improvements, but I saw no reason for them to kill the Neon, either...

all of the above are true however nothing stopped the Dodge Trucks they pretty much set the standard on diesels and really they are just a 6 banger
(its funny the always compare Chevy and ford to the Cummings they are big bad v8's going up and losing agins a 6 cyl--got ta love it)

Me I cant see any reason that the PT is not offered in a diesel the VW TDI is a awesome power plant great millage and tons of get up and go

You go find a VW bug wiht a diesel and it will be $100's higher than a non diesel
The Pt would have been a great car to try some thing in and the really sad part is they already had them in production

Guess it was not ment to be

Trucks don't have the same emissions requirements that cars do. The CARB and the states that followed have prevented all but the most recent diesels from being sold.
