Our friends at The Car Connection.com have got some spy photos of the new PT body style being tested..
--> http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=6777 What do you think? |

My opinion is that these are current bodied cars that have been set down onto a new chassis, and had a new front clip installed to test the new powertrain (probably a V6), as well as the possibility of AWD.I just don't see the current body style working with that front clip.They look like very well disguised test-mules.I bet the new car has a noticeably different body style than the car we see in these photos, not just the front clip and rear bumpers.

Take notice in the Spy photo of the white PT, besides the increased ground clearance, the muffler appears to mount side to side and the lack of the "beam" axle for the rear wheels. Gives creditability to the AWD theory and/or independent rear suspension. If that's the case, where's the "spare" tire?

Notice how much flatter the hood looks? Click one of the pictures to get the popup and then put that next to the pic of TripleJack's PT in this thread. See how the hood doesn't end even with the beltline? Since this obviously can not be how the final version will be, I have to agree with TripleJack that this could be a test bed for a new powerplant. The front fender seems to sweep up a bit more in front as well, and there's a stupid amount of room in that front wheelwell for the tire/wheel package on this example. Hmmmm....so many possibilities! Time will tell.

awd is nice in the rain and snow but as far as performance I wouldnt want one again . Yeah they are awsome out of the hole but the power train loss is also tremendos
