WOW!

That video has got to be the very BEST explanation of why people both love and hate the PT Cruiser. The exposition on postmodernism did grow a little long, but the rest of the video was both very funny and dead on point.

It's obvious that they're derided because so many of them remaining on the road today are usually beaten to hell and not at all maintained. When I wanted to buy another one here recently it took me several weeks of looking before I finally found a good clean one with low miles.

As they stated, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the cars themselves at all. And a nice clean example of one is not a punchline at all, it's simply due to the mainstream perception that they're all junkers because so many of them that you see out there today sadly appear to be.

I see nice looking ones for sale on a LOT of car lots around here. You can damn near throw a rock in any direction anywhere you go here and hit a PT Cruiser. Polk County, Florida is full of them!

I wish I could have made it down there to look then! Many of the ones I found for sale here in Texas were former rental cars with dingy interiors and bad paint and/or they had well over 100,000 miles and were needing timing belt and water pump replacements done almost immediately.

With all the good it does, the one problem with the internet? The internet! :D

I remember a silly video of a person running over a nice cream woody PT with a hummer, shortly after vandalizing it. Though ironically I don't think hummers are particularly attractive vehicles either.

The majority of car owners don't know or learn how to look after their vehicles. They don't wash them, they don't check their oil, they don't even pump up their tires. They are just a tool, but it is a shame we don't better care for the things we have.

Having been ordered not to drive for two weeks after ulnar nerve surgery, I'm responding to this article the best I can as as a "one armed bandit" doin ' one finger typin'.

Not withstanding though, I miss drivin' my PT SOOO BIG and can't wait to get back behind the wheel.

Here's my narrow opinion of that sycophantic article in Road and Track.

It reflects the skewed musings of a whanna-be writer with too little skill, too little knowledge and experience with a PT and too much influence, input and guidance from editors and cohorts as they march to the beat of a malignant media who follow the creed of; tearing down anything they don't understand or agree with.

What's happened to journalism that's simply informative and not bias and skewed, filled with popular sound bites and one liners?

The PT Cruiser was and is a way of life. It's more than great transportation, it's the sum and total of one of Chrysler's best efforts. They should still be makin' 'em.

As I sit here huntin' and peckin' with one finger I look out the window at SOOO BIG, just waitin' for the day the stitches come out and I can get back behind the wheel.

That's the ramblings of a guy who knows the intrinsic appeal of a PT.

So take your sycophantic Road and Track article and !@#$^&*.

You don't wanna know what I really said.

HAPPY PT'N. ptprice

Here here Price! I like your enthusiasm, you've got the spirit of the PT community in you for sure. Hope you're recovering well and we all look forward to you getting back behind the wheel as well :good:

One day, when nuclear warfare ravages the earth, only two things will remain: cockroaches, and mutant PT Cruisers. When that day comes, the naysayers will eat their hats! :p

I agree with PTPrice that the guy that made this video was being pretentious. A lot of that was likely just for humor and affect. And yes, the guy appears to be trying to show off his literary knowledge. I figure you don't get to use that part of your journalism degree much when you end up writing about cars.

But I found the conclusions in this video pretty well true. Many folks now see the PT as a poor person's beater car. While I don't see it that way, I completely understand why some do. When an uninitiated person sees 50 nasty PT beaters pass by, it's likely hard for them to distinguish the difference when a clean nicely modded PT goes by. The "pig in lipstick" phrase may even come to mind.

Of course, we PT enthusiasts don't see it this way at all. The PT is a great little car that is truly unique, fun to drive and modify. And seeing mine just makes me happy for some reason. :D

A lot of people must still want a PT, my dealer tells me so after every service visit. After I have been to their service department, the next day they always send me an email telling me that my vehicle "is in high demand" and they would like to make me an offer on it, and put me into a newer vehicle, with the same or lower payment. I have no car payments, so maybe I should take them up on their offer? :D

I like my PT for several reasons mentioned in the video. The high visibility, you can see what's going on around you in traffic, not like sitting on the ground, like you're in a go-cart. The ease of getting in and out. The wide rear hatch, among other things.

The PT was retro when it was introduced, it's still retro today, so to me, it's still very much in style.
