Maybe he had a limited turbo lite and they accidentally gave him stage 1. That would go against emissions.

Both of our 05 PT's were recalled for this reason and they both have the base 2.4L.

It's just a computer flash. And it's free. It's not like the car is gonna start fire like the power steering hose recall. And quicksilver, if your car is being built now, then you will already have the updated software in yours.

I have a question. This may sound stupid but here goes. When they perform this recall service can there be any increase in acceleration or fuel economy? I swear both of my PT's feel quicker now but maybe it's all in my mind. Thx!

Umm, possibly. Some flashes are for increased gas mileage and better trans schedule for hills, grades etc, or a better fuel map. It's not anything like VTEC kicking in, but there may feel like a power increase and there most likely will be a gas ileage increase.

Sometime you will feel an "extra kick" if the battery has been disconnected for service. Then the computer will reprogram itself over time to your driving style.
