Default The Truth About Chrysler?

I saw this on another site and thought I would share. I thought the oil consumption might hit home with PT owners.

[:I] I bet you could find the same info about Fords, G.M's Toyota. Kia. Honda..etc.....
Oil consumption ? Checked mine yesterday hasn't dropped at all since my last change about 3,000 miles ago. I use Mobil One and change at 5,000 mile intervals.

Sounds like someone with an ax to grind . . . or maybe they're trying to get some $$ for a problem they experienced. Who knows.

Hey, did Kirby create that site?

Why would you post this on a chrysler forum???[:I] I've been driving Chryslers since 1989. Starting with a 1980 Plymouth Horizon- - nobody even remembers them. I've also owned a 1988 Plymouth Sundance Turbo - - what a ride!! I've had two count them two 1987 Dodge Aries four doors - - One of which I still drive. 114,000 miles. I also owned a 1992 Jeep Cherokee the year chrysler took over production. 181,000 miles. Drove it all over this great land!! I just traded a 1998 Chrysler Sebring - - Fun car!! Now I own a 2002 PT Cruiser - - I love it. Yes, I still have my Aires!!! Every European I've talked to loves Chryslers!!! That should tell you something!!! Don't bash on something that even the gov't thought was worth saving!!! I've said my piece!! -Jcmhead

Sounds like someone with a big axe to grind. Worded like a tort attorney's case, or a hyped TV show. There are issues with every car, and lawyers always say "this was supposed to be a safe car". The LEAST safe car now is MUCH better than one built even 10 years ago. I lean more toward the idea that as soon as you make something idiot-proof, a better idiot comes along. Between the need for making a profit, meeting consumer wants, gov't regs, and the intense competition, I think most manufacturers do a darn good job. Is any car perfect? NO. A friend once asked what was the best car. She wanted something that got great mileage, was safe, cheap and never broke. Let's face it, even a Rolls or a hand-built rod needs service and has components that will break. The average PT is a huge advancement over the cars of the 60s in emissions, MPG, safety, comfort, handling and braking. A comparable Mopar would be a Dart.
Say you got a 318, you had a 3000# car that got low 20 MPG, had a heater and AM radio, and lap belts. It required a tuneup every year, much more lubrication, would need engine work at around 120K and was still pretty dirty. It would do a quarter mile at about the same rate as a PT, and wouldn't handle, brake, or have the creature comforts. All our perceptions advance as quickly as progress.

I haven't seen oil consumption. But my master cylinder was damn low, well past "add" after 16k miles. Never had that on any car before.

The brake pads on Cruisers wear down quite fast and this causes the master cylinder fluid to be low. Many have reported the brake warning light to come on when rolling away from a stop because of low fluid/brake pads. It's part of the "Cruiser Experience".[:I]
