Default PT's future in jeopardy?

I wonder how this will affect the restyled PT under the Mitsu platform?

Just because a car withdraws from a certain market, doesn't mean that a platform won't be used. Look at daewoo for instance. There are no more daewoo's here in the states, but the new Chevy Aveo is all daewoo. The Mitsu platform will be a world car plaform. Just like the GM epsilon platform. And, if the new PT doesn't use that Mitsu platform, is that really a big loss? It's been doing ok on the plaform it is on now.

I agree, Tommy. I guess the new platform is to go with the new styling. I'm hoping the new platform will allowthe PT to get better performance numbers at the low end, instead of having to strap on a Turbo or blower.

Since the designer of the PT is now working for Chevy for the HHR (which I find absolutely hideous, but what do I know), I have a gut feeling that the PT Cruiser's on it's last design change (what a shame)! [B)]

Since the Neon is being phased out and replaced by the new Caliber, do you think that will effect the PT lineup?

Don't the Neons and the PTs share most of their platform?

they sell over 100,000 cruisers a year. the car was just called an automotive milestone in car and driver. the dodge caliber is about to come out on a mitsu/DCX platform (as is a small Jeep). retro is still selling (the mini, the new mustang, yes, even the HHR). the cruiser will be fine, and i'm sure we will see a new version of the car at next year's auto shows on this platform. just because bryan nesbit is at GM does not mean chrysler cannot design the next gen cruiser. i think they are doing fine in design without him with cars like the 300, the magnum, and the upcoming challenger. of course, GM dumped the camero and firebird, so one cannot say for sure. but it would be a big surprise and mistake to stop making the cruiser.

None! Mitsu and Chrysler worked on the platform together but it is not a Mitsu platform. Chrysler plans to use it on at least five cars in at least two wheelbases. And no the PT does not share most of it's platform woth the Neon. Very few parts are shared.

The PT will need a new platform some day! I am pretty sure it will be the same platform as the Neon replacing Caliber has. Caliber is shorter than the Neon, wider and higher! The 2.4 engine must have been re-engineered as it now makes 172 HP in the Caliber. A non blown 172 HP bodes well for the new, not announced turbo engine for the Caliber which could be used in the last year of the old PT platform. Looks like an 08 PT perhaps delivered by the end of August 2007 with the new platform!!

When I bought my 05 last October my dealer told me they would be out of business f it was not for the PT. Just would not make business sense to get rid of the top seller. Like the corvette, the PT will be around as long as people are willing to buy them.
