Default Black Intercoolers

Here is an interesting video comparing black intercoolers to unpainted ones. Very interesting results. Especially when a car is at idle.

At the 7 minute time of the video, they sprayed the intercooler with a can of gray primer and then a coating of matt black spray paint.

some of us OLD SCHOOLERs have known this and have painted many surfaces black for years.

As for the video some would laugh if you knew where they get info for these shows!

Several Aero space Engineers would agree that coatings and colors are helpful and have there useful place. Maybe why there is different paint colors and coating all over the Space Shuttle?

Swain seems to be the only one that actually showed the most thermal improvement over any paint or coating offered.

Several years ago I help write a technical article about inter-coolers that was published in a popular auto magazine.

They've been doing the black paint mod for MANY years over at The Crew. Scott (apexanimal) was the first to do it, if I remember correctly. He was also among the first (if not the first) to remove the lower grill spokes in front of the fmic.

Jerry scott did it for looks and even mentioned that and in his opinion the eastwood's radiator paint and I quote "which doesn't affect heat transfer but looks stealth to boot."

This thread is about more or less the benefit of painting the IC black?

To bad you could not have just mentioned what we all did in the 70's and 80's instead of guessing at who did what first to a PT? It may have been more supportive to the thread?
