I recommend leaving it alone. Try picking up a shift knob you like off another vkehicle and see if you can make it work.

You could drill out a different one so it fits tightly on the PT shift...

well if the new joint has that much play on the shaft, it either means the shaft was damaged from the old axle or the new axle fits too loosely because it was machined wrong. that shouldn't move half...
