My 2005 Touring Convertible has the 6 disc in dash head unit.
I'd like to come up with a better solution for using my mp3 player than the little fm modulator broadcaster. I see that for some of the stereo units, there's a converter that will let you plug the MP3 player in where a CD changer would go. Reading the product description at discountcarstero.com leads me to believe that my head unit won't work with that adapter. Has anyone here found a better solution to this than broadcasting the signal? Does anyone here have photos of the wires, etc from one of these units that they've pulled out of their car? |

I'm not sure how the factory unit looks on the back, but if it has some rca inputs, then you can do what I did. I ran a cord with the rca ins on one side and a stereo out (like a headphone plug) on the other. I had it run from behind the unit down into the floor board so I can plug my mini disk player in. I have an aftermarket unit, so I can't say that this would work with the factory one, but it might.

That's exactly the type of thing I'd like to do. Now if I can find someone with photos of the factory unit.
My next option (which I don't really like as much) is to find an aftermarket head unit with an aux input on the front panel. |

Do an ebay search on the head unit, (RBQ I think?) and I'm sure they'll have pictures of any unit they are selling. I don't think any chrysler PT head unit has RCA jacks, just the default harness connector, cd changer/sirius connector and the antenna plug.
Good luck; SRG |

having installed an ipod to car adaptor, i can tell you that the factory radios do not have an RCA plug. the adaptors work by plugging into the cd changer port. they do make an additonal adaptor so that you can run both the cd player and mp3 player thru the port, check and see if your unit will work with that or not. if not, then there are a few options. the cheapest would be to see if someone on the pt forums has a factory unit that can be used with the adaptors. sure there are lots of pt owners that have changed out the factory stereo and would be willing to sell cheap. the second option would be a new head unit. a year or so ago when i was looking into this, i found only a few brands made stereos with the RCA plug, and that they seemed to start at over 250 bucks. not sure if that has since changed. but whatever you do, it will sound much better than the FM modulator. as for the back of the stereo, i think it may be easier to just pull it out then to try to find it online, only takes a minute. search this forum to find directions for removing the center console and radio. good luck and let us know what you decide to do!
