Hi, ive never really done any sound upgrades, but noticed that the sound system in my 03' GT is a bit......lets say lacking. I want to do some upgrades, ive read that i shouldnt change the tweeters, but is it worth getting the mopar sub, has anyone gotten this? Is it any good? Also, what size are the speakers? i was thinking that i would pop in some new ones. Finally, is the radio the same format as on the 300C? There is a deck for sale, a Boston Acoustics setup from a 300 that i was wondering if it fit? thanks any recommendations are appreciated

Rte66 is right, you have to decide how much you want to spend. Maybe do a little bit at a time to see if the improvements are enough for you, first start with replacing the speakers.
I went ahead and did a replacement of speakers, added an amp, and added the Mopar sub, along with sound deadening, and the stereo sounds excellent now. I even removed the little dash tweeters, they didn't seem to be doing much anyway. Adding the sub helped, but not until I added the sound deadening to eliminate road noise and vibrations could I really crank up the sound. The amp helped to get the most out of the new speakers. I'm sure there are a bunch of stereo people here who can give you better advice than me, but I would say at least start with some speakers.

well i was planning to switch over the speakers first of all. What size are they, i figured i would pick up a set off ebay or something. heck a buddy of mine even has his old VW Monsoon speakers for sale, and i figured they fit i would just pop those in. I guess i was willing to spend a couple hundred bucks, ill probably get an Amp from bestbuy or something and pick up the speakers somewhere else, any recommendations on brands or anything?
thanks |

So far all that is done to my stereo is to change out the stock tape deck to a 50w x 4 channel Kenwood head unit that I picked up at the local Circuit City for around $110 and changed the rear speakers to a set of Polks that I got at the same time for $65 and now everything sounds pretty good.
Basically what I am saying is to shop around you can usually find good deals around and definately before you buy take a cd that you listen to alot to the store with you and check out different combinations to find out what you like best. You might find out,as I did, that you really dont need to get all the extreme high end equipment(head units, amps, subs)to be happy. |

I put Infinity Kappas in the doors and rear that I got off eBay, they fit and sound great. I think the doors are 6 3/4 and the rear are 5 x7 or 6x8, can't remember, but you can just check Infinity and see what they have.
Your amp should be just something that fits to your speakers, seems like there are lots of decent ones out there.

Hey again, i may have some questions that sound pretty stupid, anyway here goes.
Can i mix and match two different kind of speakers for the back pillars and the doors. Like put like pioneers in the front and infinity's in the back? Or is it better to keep with all 4 the same. Also, just looking at the best buy site there are amp's with 1-5 channels, how do i know which one i should have? With the deck in the console, i was looking at it, and frankly i dont understand how a deck would fit into the dash, the chrysler radio is so big and fat, wouldnt a deck just take up only about half? How would i go about solving this? Thanks in advance from a real beginner in sound mods [:I] Mike |

Spend some time at Crutchfield's site. They have newbie information, and you can see what fits your car. Pretty good info to help you make better choices. I was told years ago that your budget should usually be 50% speakers, 50% everything else. It's like getting a really good computer monitor. that's what you look at (or hear, for speakers), not the fancy stuff in the box.

What i usually do is go to circuit city or best buy. They have alot on display. You can listen to speakers and check out different head units that you might be interested in.I bring a peice of paper and a pen and write down part #'s.When i get home i check out circuit city.com and read reviews on the items that i am interested in.Once i make my decision i look on ebay and usually find the items for about half of what circuit city wants. If you can save $50 on a radio that might equal a free set of door speakers. If you do your reasearch you will spend the money once and be happy. As long as you stick with name brands like polk audio, infinity, boston acoustic for speakers.Kenwood ,alpine, high end sony,or a high end pioneer for a head unit you should be fine.Try not to cut corners and buy cheap stuff or you will end up spending money twice.
