It seems that when I play my iPod thru my DLO Trandpod Direct (NON FM MODEL) Charging Cradle I get a high pitched whine in time with the engine speed. Especially wheh the AC on!
After further trouble shooting it has been narrowed down to just happening when the Transpod is plugged into the lower Power Outlet on the console. When playing the iPod on it's own battery, or when the Transpod's plugged into the Upper Power Outlet the whine goes away!![]() My local Stereo Shop diagnosed it as a "weak ground" which leads me to my question. Where are these Power Outlet grounds located? Any Help will be greatly appreciated. |

i would think the ground wire would be attached below the socket ??[:I]

If I remember right a power outlet is self grounding through the outer casing of the unit, try taking the outlet out and lightly sanding the outside down to make sure there is no corrosion or anything else on it and that you are getting a good connection that way.
Another thing you could try is to take a short piece of wire and attach one side to a mounting screw on your cradle and the other end to a body screw. The easiest way to figure out which you have to do is to take a test light and with the ignition on,and the motor and ac running, put one end(with the point)directly into the center of the outlet and use the other end to probe around until you get the brightest light you think is possible start with the sleeve to the outlet and work from there. |

What thecauses the whine is electrical noise from the motor and it is being picked up in your Ipod, This is a common problem encounterd when installing aftermarket electrical items on any car.
Another thing I forgot to mention is check your engine to frame and body grounds as they can also be the source |

This weekend I tried cleaning off the two ground points on the inner fender next to the air cleaner. I'll keep you posted on the results.
Thanks for asking.

I promised I'd report back on the results of cleaning the ground pionts on the inner fender near the air cleaner. So far I think it solved about 80% of the high pitched whine. I can still hear a slight noise when accelerating but not nearly as bad as before.
Does any one know if there are ground points else where that I should clean up?
