Default radio/cd player cuts out

My 2003 (out of warranty) cd player/ radio cuts out intermittently.
I originally thought it was may cd, so I cleaned the cd and the cd player. Changed cd and it still cuts out, I LED goes out. The radio also goes out. Anybody else have or heard of this problem? Any help would be appreciated before I start checking for a short or ground thought I'd ask. I did a search and found nothing. [:I]

had this happen twice, already. if you have alot of stuff on your key ring, it pulls the key out of the fully seated position. it is enough to shut off the stereo. just push the key back in to seat it. i had the lock cylinder replaced once before. its a double cut key like the old fords, they dont hold well in the lock cylinders.

Well it looks like I'm pulling the radio today or tomorrow (depending on Ernesto). I wish I had a place to test it rather than just looking for chaffed wires etc.

When you take out the radio look for a lose ground wire, that to me sounds like the most plausible culprit.

Update 9/17/06 disconnected neg battery cable, removed radio from center console found nothing wrong. Loaded my cd manual and found that if radio stops playing it could be a fuse in the junction block. And or it could be a IOD problem. Where is the IOD. Might need some help from MX5 on this one. Also when radio was out I noticed I have another connector block next to the radio harness. I looked in my books and have no idea what this is for.It is an 8 pin socket, any help would be appreciated.
Update as of 9/20/06 checked all ground wires and they seem okay. Noticed when I turn the steering wheel to the left it cut out sometimes. It did this 4 or 5 times, intermittentally cutting in and out. I then gave the shroud around steering column a shot with the heel of my hand and radio cut back in. I have to take a break (this is driving me nuts).
