Default "new" 2001 PT

We just picked up a 01 PT Cruiser Limited!! I'm kind of confused....we really were not too concerned about stereos, but That we have had it a couple of days, we have started playing around. The reason i'm confused is that the sales man stated that it has a cd changer. The main unit has buttons for disc 1-5 and other cd controls. Ok.....here it is, where do I put the discs????? I have looked under the seats and in the cargo area!! Help...I feel stupid!! thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Back in 2001 the buyer had the option for the disk changer with the stereo which apparently you have. My brochure for my 2001 said they put the changer under the front seat. There is no room under the passenger seat because of the optional sliding drawer. The drivers seat has plenty of room (that's where I had the amplifier for my subwoofer installed), so if you don't see the changer under your drivers seat, someone has decided that they wanted it more than you. Welcome!
The radios in the 2001 and 2002 PT came with what they called "Changer Controls"
The 2001 Limited should have come with a radio with at least a single CD player built in and maybe a cassette player too. The 10 disc changer was optional but the radio buttons have marking for the changer controls. The CD Changer bolts under the drivers seat and plugs into the back of the radio.
Just a note here, the CD Changers are different for the 2001 and the 2002 and up PT's. If you get one, make sure it's the correct one or check the dealer for an adaptor wiring harness.

Well, I checked under the drivers seat and theres not even any wires beside the seat controls!! By the way, What is the covered storage area on the left hand side of the cargo area for??? It has a lid with a hole and at the edge the is a finger pull area!! They sure weren't stingy with power outlets!!! Thanks for all of your help!!!

The "cubby hole in the left of the cargo area is either for storage or for the "subwoofer" that came as an option for the stereo. If you got the subwoofer/bass speaker then that area was used and you'd see a mesh covering of the speaker. Without it, you can store "whatever" fits.

I find it's perfect for jumper cables and a pair of cotton gloves so I can be a hero and give damsels in distress a hand.
