Default help with install

I'll be installing an aftermarket sub and amp in my 2001 PT. I tried to do it last Saturday but when I got to running the wiring, I didn't know which wires to splice. I don't want to mess anything up so if someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Are You Using an Aftermarket head unit?
If you are then it is really simple
on the back of the head unit there is a blue or blue/white stripped wire,it may be marked as a power accessory wire but this is a trigger line it goes directly to the 12 volt switched terminal on the amp.
There is also a set of RCA jacks they also go straight to the corresponding color terminals on the amp.
The next step is to locate a good ground spot usually right to bare metal, that is where the black wire from the neg terminal on the amp goes,
Finally under the hood you install the red main power line right to the pos side of the battery, through a seperate fuse holder, then through the firewall straight to the 12 volt supply terminal on the amp.
Next you locate the speaker terminals on the amp,and wire the sub accordinglly,if you are using the amp as a dedicated single subwoofer (in other words you are not using the amp to power anymore speakers)look on the side above the speaker out terminals for something marked bridging(if possible)and use that wiring set up.
I hope that this is the info you are looking for and please keep us informed of your progress./

i have my power line run from the battery to the amp, and i have it wired into the fuse of the radio so it all comes on at the same time. i have a scosche speaker lever converter that seems to be the problem. i don't seem to have it wired right. i'm not getting any sound to the amp to push through the speakers. do you have any idea how to fix it? here's the link to the converter.

I am sorry to say I cant help there as I have never used line level converters, but I do have a stupid question, have you checked the output gain on the amp to make sure it is turned up? Sometimes it is the easiest things that are overlooked. As for the wiring are you sure the amp is coming on and staying on and not going into failure mode? What that means is that most amps if they for one reason or another sense a short they automatically shut down to prevent any damage.

i got it all wired right finally, tech support gave me the info i needed. but my sub is blown apparantly. it sounds horrible at a low level and when i turn it up any at all, the amp's "over current" light pops on and the sub quits working. so i'll be getting a new sub hopefully in the near future.

Is it possible you have the + / - switched on the sub? That could be why it's sounding the way it is? I know they still work if you reverse them, but it'll sound terrible, not sure if it would pop the over current switch though on the amp. Worth a shot to double check though, before you spend the bank on a new sub.

The only thing in my experience that would constantly cause that light to go on is a short I.E...wires crossed ,positive line touching ground,or vice versa.
Do 2 things look at the amp and make sure all your connections in and out are clean and not touching the amp hopousing itself just the terminals, then go to where the ground is mounted and make sure you have and extremely clean bare metal surface connection no paint or anything else there, this would cause ground to break and register as a short causing your light to go on.
One other thing maybe you said so and I missed it but what is your operating specs on the sub and amp and how high do you have tha gain set on the amp?
