Unhappy 2001 radio problem

What would make the radio in a 2001 cut out? It has a 3 band equalizer that would light up but nothing happened with the radio, not even when the fuse was removed. All of a sudden, the radio decided to work . But the battery was dead.

Changed the battery and the radio worked for a few days and quit working when I went to turn up the volume. It comes on, sometime, but cuts out as soon as the volume knob is touched. Any suggestions?

Sorry. Sounds like time to take it out and let a professional look at it. Can you take the center console out yourself? Pretty easy; pry the window switch square out of the console, unhook the two sets of wires and put the switch aside. Look inside for a tiny phillips screw and take that out. Take off the four air-conditioning knobs. Pry all around the outside of the console face and you'll see it will start to come off (towards you). When that's off, you have access to all the switches and radio. 4 screws and the radio will come loose but there's a bunch of wires in the back of the radio that have to come out. Try re-seating and wiggling the wires in the back of the radio, maybe somethings just loose.

Thanks. I will try that. Today the thing just died. The clock is stuck on a time and it is not doing anything. I keep trying to figure out if it is the radio, which is my gut instinct, or if it is somewhere else.

I said the heck with it and put it a new radio. It works fine.
