I know this is somewhat possible because a friend of mine has a Cobalt and his works amazing. I want to keep the factory deck because people have been breaking into my cars and a stock deck would not interest them. Basically everything would be hidden.
What exactly do I need / need to do in order to get this to work?

Do you want to run a full system or just a amp for the subs? Back in the day they use to make this converter that took your speaker wire and converted it to RCA outs. Maybbe call Crutchfield and see what they say.

yeah just wanna run it to a sub amp. I've had an 1100 watt Kenwood internally cooled for over a year with a 1000 watt Pioneer 12, but always had an aftermarket deck. crutchfield, do they have a website or something?

Heres Crutchfields website . Also keep in mind the stock headunit is going to distort when you crank up on the volume.

I don't know where you can get this filter, but I do know they are around. A lot of amps already have the high-level filter built in, like the JL Audio A1200, that I used when I had my 2001 with the JL Audio Stealth Box. Worked perfect along with the factory head unit.

I have that amp still, and would be willing to sell if someone was interested. Specs: 175RMSx1 @ 4ohm (275 @ 2ohm). I haven't found a good place for a sub in my convertible, so the amp does me no good right now.

Just do a search online for a "line level adapter". That is what you are looking for.

i know either best buy or circuit city has what youre looking for. my friend just got it done to his 05 not to long ago, man oh man is it AWESOME.

makes me kinda mad i went out and got a new deck, stock rocks the bass so hard
