Default OEM alarm system

I have the 2001 Limited PT

Question is, how good is this alarm system?

Is the car easily "steal-able" I was wondering this due to the "sentry" key

Lets discuss!

I am not speaking in terms of getting into the car, windows are easy in :P

If they want it bad enough, there's almost nothing you can do as far as the professional crook goes.

We (you and I with our 2001 LE) have a horn the goes off and a key with a chip in it. That will keep 99% of the non-professionals from stealing it. Put locks on your wheels, don't leave anything in site that can be worth some money to a passer-by and keep the OEM alarm on. A little extra would be a good steering wheel lock but as I said, a professional carries tools that will snap the lock or cut the wheel itself to get the lock off. Most joy riders don't carry a lock-breaker big enough to do that.

If your really worried, look into an immobilizer or maybe a cut off switch for the ignition or fuel pump.

Pedal lock! locks the steering and brake system, and you cant beat that bright yellow in your face to the passerbys. and as crewzin said, dont leave tempting things out for everyone to see.

All of that sounds good...

I am saying, the entire car... stealable by means of "hot wiring" and such.... Is that easy for a professional?

If a pro wants your car, there isn't much you can do about it without locking it up in a garage.

My baby is garaged at night, but she's all alone out in public parking lots all day (and, due to my job, often until midnight or later.) Maybe it was an unnecessary bother, but I had an ignition kill switch installed: I figure the harder I make it, the more likely the crooks'll go on to some EASIER target. Plus, being the psycho I am, I've always locked all my cars up tight. (Yes, including when I get out to pump gas!)

No guarentees, of course --- like a couple people say above: if they really want your car, they WILL get it --- but anything I can do to make it less-likely they'll succeed, I'll do. And, too, I'd rather come out some night to find a broken window than a stolen car!

crewzin is correct there is a chip in the ignition key and the car will only start if the original key is near the steering column make a copy of your key and give it to a car thief there is no way the car will start, this feature alone will keep 99% of the non-professionals out. lol
professionals thief's are stealing Honda, acura,Toyota corvettes, and other fancy cars

MY 2007 Touring has the OEM alarm, and you must manually activate the key when leaving car to lock doors and set alarm.

My previous car's (94 Cherokee) alarm waited a minute or so and if you forgot to manually activate, it would arm itself.

Is there a way to set the PT system to automatically arm and/or lock once ignition is off for an interval period?

Thought it might be an option in the EVIC, but doesnt seem to be
