Default Mopar iPod Kit 82209617 - Direct connection

So i bought this add-on because i dont like the way aftermarket radios look in the 07 pt cruiser's bezel (My wife has one in hers ). I just wanted ipod connectivity integration without using the plug in the front (which is what i was doing and i wanted a cleaner one cable solution). So now that i have it installed it works good but:

1. I have the REF Radio and the navigation for the ipod SUCKS! there is no Text read out.
2. New gen ipods and iphones DO NOT WORK (3rd gen nanos, ipod classics, ipod touch)

My questions are:

If i upgrade the head unit to the RAQ unit which has limited Text readout (RDS etc) will it at least let me see what song is playing? (does anyone have this setup with a RAQ)?

Do you think there will be some firmware update for the mopar kit allowing t function with newer ipods? Or will we have to rely on Apple?

Also i have heard that if i install a RAQ in place of the REF it will not work unless i take it to the dealer to have hook it up to the computer to tell it to recognize the RAQ unit?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

OR Does anyone make an aftermarket head unit that is the exact same size as the PT's stock bezel? i know about these: Factory Look-A-Like DVD Receivers To Fit Chrysler,Dodge and Jeep Vehicles but they are like $1k which is TOO much.

Help guys please!
