remote amp wire

i am hooking up my amp for mypt cruiser and i can;t remember what wire to hook my wire to i am going to hook the remote wire to the spare cigar lighter in rear of car and there is a red and black it makes sense to hook it up to the red but i just want to be sure i also checked and made sure when i cut the car off the power shuts off can some one help thanks
