I know it's not the one you're looking for. But give the Alpine PLT-5 a look. It's about the size of a small suitcase, and it can hang with a good 10". It uses 6 5" speakers arranged in a linear array. I bought it because I frequently haul stuff, and it's easy to shove to the side, or even disconnect and remove. It's self powered with a 250W digital amp, so all you need is an amp wiring kit and preouts from the stereo. Alpine quit making them I guess because they didn't sell enough. I've seen them online for under $300 shipped! I paid $700 for mine and it's worth every penny! It has very tight, fast, precise bass. It sounds good with everything from rock, to pop, country, classical, whatever. The only thing if you listen to rap it sometimes can't quite nail the low notes as loud as it could. I listen to rock mainly and it's terrific!
If you want to see how it looks space wise I could take a picture tomorrow and post it up. Ben

What I am doing is I'll have the amp under the seat (As to not enroach on storage space) then a regular sub in the trunk. If I really need the storage space, I'll either tumble a seat forward and push the sub box up, or I'll take it out for the day or whatever I need the space and put it in the house. I refuse to have a substandard subwoofer system just because of the rare need for the extra space. IMO it's about as retarded an idea as people who drive pickup trucks because they might need to haul something big twice a year.

I would get either the jl audio stealth box or get the factory subwoofer. You can find the factory sub on ebay for under $200 and it has an amp built in.It takes up no space at all and is decent. The jl audio stealth box is about $500 has no amp but works great(thats what i have in my car.)I have a alpine 200 watt amp mounted under the seat and the stealth box mounts in the rear quarter panel so the same as the factory sub it takes up no space. You can see pics on my cardomain page.
