Default How can I get my car to be more quiet? It is too loud!

I just got a red 2006 pt cruiser base model and I came from a w124 Mercedes Benz 300e and the Chrysler lets more road noise enter the cabin. I was thinking about adding some dynamat ( or something less expensive ). Is there anything that you recommend to make the car more quiet? How difficult would it be to do this? I only have weekends available so I only have 2 days to finish the project because I am getting rid of my other car soon.

Cliff notes: How can I get my car to be more quiet? Please be as specific as possible!

You'll probably never get it as quiet as your Benz but you can have the under side sprayed with a good thick undercoat and then also use your dynamat under the rug. You also might have the panels taken off the inside of the doors and some quiet padding put in there too.

agreed, though also look into the firewall, that lets quite a bit of noise through on the PT. At least its not the new Sebring! sounds like the inside of a cargo plane!

Edit: WOOOOOOO!!! 500 posts!!!

Thanks for the recommendation. Anything can be as quiet as one. A benz is made of parts too... How much would it cost to have the underside sprayed? And what is it sprayed with? This sounds like something easy that I can just take somewhere to have done. And what is sprayed? I have never heard of this being done surprisingly. Oh and putting a sound dampener under the rug sounds too time consuming. I was planning on only doing the doors since the door panel comes off pretty easily.

Rustproofng or Undercoating can be done at many places including the dealer. It's usually not done on the newer cars as they are dipped at the factory but an extra coat on the underside of the vehicle will give you another layer of sound protection. A full Undercoating job will also include the inside of the doors but can run anywhere from $200 to $300. Check in the yellow pages in your area under the first two words in this reply.

Cool Re: How can I get my car to be more quiet? It is too loud!

When we want quiet, we take my wife's Grand Marquis!
Especially with the turbo, or soonercruiser with the AirRaid intake system - I love the noise!
**Don't forget...undercoating = more weight....= decreased gas mileage.
