Question Where to hook up Amplifier "remote turn on" wire

Hey Mopar Brethren,

I started working on installing my new matched component speakers, amps and subwoofer this past weekend.

I wasn't sure where to hook up the amp. "remote turn on wire" - this is the one that monitors a 12 volt signal and tells the amp. to switch on.

When you guys did your systems which wire did you hook up to? I was thinking the cig. ligther port would work since it only works with ACC or ignition on positions, but I almost broke it trying to get it out.
  1. Since our cars don't have power antennas is there a wire off the factory radio harness that we can use to send the signal?
  2. What color is the wire or what pin position is it?
  3. I'm planning on piggy-backing off the same remote wire for the sub-woofer dedicated amp. Any problems with this so I can turn on both amps simultaneously?

Thanks guys I know you all have this figured out, but this is my first DIY install so I'm not sure.

EDIT UPDATE ON 12/5/08: Found that the Red wire with white stripe is the power wire directly into the radio - when key is in "on" or ACC" position this wire gets 12 volts - should work well for turning on the amps. This is the wire I decided to use.

Default Re: Where to hook up Amplifier "remote turn on" wire

Before I changed my headunit out, I ran the remote lead to the fuse box underneath the hood. If you have a automatic tranny, there is a metal plate under the dash where the clutch pedal would run through if you had a manual tranny. 2 bolts hold that plate in. I remove the plate and drilled the hole out big enough for 1 gauge power wire and the remote lead. I then used a grommet and put it all back together. I have seen guys say you can run your wires next to the hood latch cable under the dash, but that wont work for big gauge wire. Hope this helps.
