Default Sound Dampening in 04 Cruiser

I am in the process of upgrading the sound system my fiance's 04 Cruiser. I installed an amp and 2 12" subs and next is a new deck. I was wondering what the best/simplest way to eliminate the vibration from the subs...as in the rear hatch rattles. Is there a less expensive option apart from Dynamat?

Turn down the base. Seriously. When I had my Clarion 200W Amp put in along with the 8 1/2 subwoofer, the hatch and rear view mirror wouldn't stop vibrating. Just turned down the Amp a bit and all is well.

Already cut the power nearly in half. It isn't that the thing rattles continuously. Her music preferences are pretty broad and I don't believe that all the music has been truly normalized on her Ipod. Going from country to r&b to hip hop to rock to metal...always needs a lot of tweaking to get the sound right. I know this but...she isn't as patient. I am hoping the new deck will make it easier as I will be getting much better sound quality as well as a much better eq. The stock system...bass setting is set to -8 most of the time and that works for the most part.

Go to lowes and buy a roll of peel and stick. It comes on a 25ft roll and is $13. I did all 4 of my doors and my rear hatch. Works great!

Sounds like a good idea. I'll try that out this week. Thanks

I'm sure you will like it. Lowes has it where the roof shingles are. It's a round package with white on the outside. It has a aluminum backing also.

That is possibly the gayest recommendation ever. If your hatch is rattling, 9 times out of 10, the hatch needs to be tightened or the seals are bad. Check the rubber hatch seal for signs of splitting, cracking, or shrinking. If good, find how to adjust the latch to pull it a little tighter. If those two fail, then the interior trim on the hatch may be loose, in which case you may want to peel the interior panels and try to lay a layer of foam to keep from vibrating against the hatch metal.

Sound deadening will help keep road noise from intruding on the cabin, but will do little if anything to help a rattling problem as installers would like you to believe. Installers don't make much money unless they're selling you accesories at 300% markup. I've been installing on the side for over 12 years. Sound deadening will do nothing for this particular issue except make your hatch heavy and have trouble staying open.

My reply was in part, a joke, but it will work as turning down the base on the AMP stopped my rear view mirror vibrating and as it tuned out it was the container of the subwoofer speaker that was rattling and not the hatch.

Lowkey has a vibration (maybe the hatch) from the Amp and 2 -12 inch subs. Unless he's the kind of person that we all love to hear a block away, turning down the base will stop most of the vibration, and with all your remarks you still didn't come up with a solution to his problem except to tighten down the hatch.

Telling someone who wants lots of bass to turn down his bass as a response is asinine.

Consider the following:

Q: I'm having wheel spin problems when launching my turbo engine.
A: Put an N/A engine in. You will not be able to spin your tires anymore.

And I believe I gave three options for possible rattling. Neither suggested turning down the volume of an aftermarket stereo.
