Default Non Factory Stereo -- Do you lose the in dash display?

When I bought my 2006 pt, I thought it was kind of cool that the radio station you're listening to shows up in the instrument cluster, or the cd track info if you're playing a cd.

If I were to replace the stereo with a non-stock model, would that no longer display, or can this data be pulled from any head unit?

You will loose the info. Its a canbus data system and no aftermarket radio has data out yet.

With my JVC player, I was able to draw details of songs played via USB port. (model in question was JVC KD-G820. This was due to detailing the songs in WMA format. As Betdathurt indicated, radio display is a no-go.

So, to be clear, when you were playing WMA files froma USB stick through this radio, it sent the song data to the in dash display?

No
You cannot get info from an aftermarket radio on to the dash display.

Ok, then what was DJDan talking about?

Did you mean the song data showed on the display of the JVC unit, rather than the indash?
