Default Code for radio (european model)

I had do disconnect the battery on my 2001, and now with it reconnected the radio says CODE in the display. What is this code? I think this only applies to european models.

...and your asking a U.S.A. site because ????

Don't all radios have a different code? I wouldn't think one-code-fits-all will do the trick with your problem.

didn't know this was a US only forum?

yeah, after a night of googling i figured out that it's a car specific code. so i guess i'll end up throwing my radio away because of what a Chrysler engineer thought was clever.

In my mind, this is not a USA only forum. Could it be that a radio code is put in so if the radio is stolen it will not work for other people? If you had the serial number of the radio and maybe the Vin number for the car, maybe some one at Chrysler could get the code for you??? Send them a e-mail and ask.

thnx, white. Don't see why you would need to exclude non-us users.

Just contacted my local dealer today, and luckily he had the code, all he needed was the registration number for the car. I've heard about other people that wasn't as lucky, and had to get the radio "re-coded" at the dealer.

Sorry about the mis-understanding. I meant to say that the code only comes on the European models and I know there's PT Cruiser forums overseas that wold be better able to answer any questions about the code, so why go to a predominantly U.S. based site? The whole world is welcome but if you look at the 7000+ members very few are from overseas. No body is excluded.

As you can see by the couple answers that we supplied, we couldn't give him the correct answer, only to go to the dealer.

JooV, glad you found out your code number.
