I had a local audio place install a PIE Ipod cable to my factory installed RAQ radio. The next morning while driving to work the air bag light came on and the outside temp guage went to double dashes, about 10 seconds later the air bag light went out and the outside temp guage started working. It did this like three times in a row.
I called the audio place and they told me this is normal, when the radio harness is disconnected and reconnected, the car computer sometimes gets confused and needs to reset itself. This morning I went on a short drive and the same thing happened again. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and is this normal? Anything I should do? My Cruiser only has 6,000 miles on it, so I don't think I really have an air bag/computer problem. I don't want to take it to the dealership yet, when they will charge me if the audio store did something wrong. The Ipod cable works great and they routed it to the center console. Thanks for any help. |

The dealer will charge you a diagnostic fee and then could turn around and blame it on the installer and your back to square one.

Thanks, yep, I know.. Cruiser is much better so far today, no computer resets. I think I have counted 10 of them since Friday. I think the problem was caused because the audio place did not disconnect the battery when they installed the IPOD cable as per step 1 of the instructions. How do I know? Because the radio still has the satellite and FM presets I had before I took the car to them after they installed the cable.

My PIE unit has so much noise you can't listen to the music at all so I don't use it anymore. They refuse to honor the warranty unless you bought it on their site - they say everyone else is not an authorized dealer.

Thanks, I did that and now the IPOD cable no longer works, when I select the radio mode button it will no longer go to DVD mode. So I am sure there is something wrong with cable. The car computer also quit resetting. I am just waiting for the weather to warm up and I will pull the radio and look myself.

I got it from a large dealer on Ebay - at the time I didn't know there was any other way to get it. I'll have to go through my records to find the exact name.
I just got some advice from a car audio guy who thinks it may be my RCA to Audio jack cable that is introducing the noise and I will try some ferrite cores on it this week. |

Been meaning to update this. Turns out, the audio store that installed my ipod cable bent a connector on the 10 pin harness which just happened to be the ground pin. So that's why my car computer kept resetting. Thankfully this audio place has gone out of business for good.
