Chris,

I can show you next time I see you. I ran three hyperground wires in mine. They all start from the negative battery terminal. One went to the computer ground, one went to the side of the engine and the third went to a good ground on the body.

I would appreciate that very much. Thanks very much for the photo.

Just out of curiosity-- did you notice any differences before/after the wires? And what was your reasoning for stopping at 3 connections? From what I've seen, most people ran a couple more wires to trans bolts, passenger strut, intake and another point on the passenger side, I think..

I'm mainly doing it because it's inexpensive and it'll hopefully take a small load off of my amps, but if I can expect some sort of improvement, that'd be even better.. I like $20 mods!

Thanks again.

Back from my Sheriff duties.

Chris, why did I do it and why stop at 3? This "thing" about hyper-grounding came up a year or so ago and everybody was talking about how wonderful it was. Their lights didn't flicker, their radio had no static ...their cheeseburgers tasted better. Hyper-grounding seemed to be THE fix it for everything.

I really wasn't having any trouble at all but jumped on the bandwagon and thought what the heck and ran the three grounding wires from the negative terminal for the heck of it. I guess I could have done more but stopped at 3. A good round number.

Ah, what is it that you do for the Sheriff's Dept.? My brother's a deputy.

I understand the concept behind it, I was just curious because it seems as if the phase resulted in a couple people casually jumping on the bandwagon while others had multitudes of ground wires going to 50 different places and wasn't sure if your 'simple' (relatively) configuration gave you the results you wanted, or if I should go with more than 3 connections.. know what I mean?

I'll be back in a few hours. Working til 8:30 tonight and I'm on my dinner break! Looks like we're in for some rain..

Should you go with more? Are you having grounding problems? If so, maybe the more the merrier.

Ah, I see. Interesting.

That's a pretty sleek looking Taurus.

Well, when I originally started putting in stereo components, I had a nasty case of alternator whine (or so I thought), and after I tossed in my Sony sub amp and the Alpine, I put in a ground loop isolator which seemed to rid me of the annoying interference, but occasionally I get a bit of hum through my components up front.

So, maybe it would help a bit with that and I could possibly remove the ground loop isolator.. That'd be nice. Less load.

It can't hurt.

Gonna chime in here with some insight from the medical equipment field, specifically MRI / CT / X-Ray suites in hospitals and radiology centers.

When these extremely high end pieces of equipment (some can cost $2 mil just to install ...) are installed we are provided with all the wiring and hardware to do the job. I'll give an example of an MRI I just finished installation on last month.

The data wiring was 16 gauge strand wiring. The power cables were 8 gauge strand wires.

...
The main ground wires were 2 gauge SOLID core.
...

And anything that had metal in it that was not an electrical component was grounded. The main ground harness was in turn WELDED to a 10 foot piece of 2" thick stainless that was then drove into the earth below the foundation of the room until only a 2 foot piece of the rod was showing. After this ground lug was earthed and the grounding harness was welded to the lug, it was then that they filled the foundation with the concrete and rebar to support the weight of the unit.

All the cabinets are ground connected via 16 gauge ground cables to the main ground bar which was in-turn tied to the ground lug buried below the room. If it was metal it was eventually grounded to the main lug.

Moral of this story is that hyper-grounding can be looked at as over-kill, but if it's appropriate for an MRI installation, it cannot hurt to do it on yer whip.

I personally ground the piss out of my vehicles when I upgrade the stereo in them: Engine to neg bat lug, computer to neg bat lug, body to neg bat lug (main 4g wires), doors to body, hood to body, liftgate to body, suspension to body (secondary 16g wires).

Just for the record, I went ahead and did this mod, using the same 3 points that Crewzin suggested and was able to remove Ground Loop Isolators from both my front speakers and also my subwoofer. No alternator whine. I haven't taken the car out at all yet, so I can't qualify the throttle response gains or anything like that, but am happy with this $15 mod.

I also discovered that one of my crossovers was set to +3db while the other was set to +0db. I just always assumed I was going deaf on one side..
