Help Installing after market stereo

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and need some assistance with replacing the stock stereo in a 2007 cruiser.
I am replacing the stock stereo with a JVC KD-G340. I have matched up the wires but I did see that there was 2 yellow wires instead of 1 as on the wiring harness to the stereo. I connected one of the yellow wires and covered the other. there was also 2 black wires but only needed one so I covered the extra one up. After installing the stereo, I get no display and it doesn't seem to turn on. I can eject the cd so that must mean that it has power but the face doesn't light up and the power button doesn't seem to do anything.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I might have not done?
