Is there a manual which contains service information for the mopar 6-cd player.
After I replaced the car battery the CD player does NOT work. It's a 2004 PT GT and I am figuring it's a anti-theft or other initialization that needs to occur. Radio is working fine. We bought the car new and this is the first time the battery has been disconnected. The Factory 6-cd deck was added as an option at the time we purchased the car. I tired buying a Chrylser service manual on the car on Ebay but it didn't give any anti-theft details and didn't mention the 6=cd player deck. Any advice or help here on this? |

If your radio is working, I doubt it's some form of anti-theft.
Have you checked all of your fuses?

We bought the PT new. It came from the factory with a single CD player
and we had the dealership put in the 6-cd mopar player before we took it home. I changed the battery the other day so it was without power disconnected for the first time for about 1 hour. No blown fuses in fact the CD player does make initialization noises when you first power on the radio. The radio doesn't anymore show a CD-player to be selected however. It's like the radio has forgotten a networking setting to be able to find and control the CD player ... I think this was a volatile setting that was lost without the battery. I would guess if I had the paper work which came out of the mopar 6-cd player box that I assume the dealership used and tossed I would find the setting magic info to cure this problem. Perhaps it would be cured if I removed the CD-player and manually unloaded the CDs which are stuck in it? The service department can't or won't help us unless we bring it in to them and of course they are going to get us for an hour or more of labor. Anyway was thinking for calling up dealership parts dept to see if they have a 6-cd player and see if I can get to see the paper work. I was hoping someone here might have had this same issue but you are the first kind reply I have seen in some weeks. |

I just Googled and searched other forums because I had heard of your problem before with the battery being disconnected and everything I came up with were problems, no answers. If someone did come up with an answer, they never came back to the forum to say what it was. Sorry.

If I would have thought about I could have kept power to the battery cables while I swapped the battery but unfortunately never crossed my mind I would get burned like this. I soldiered in a new negative cable to be battery and that took some time to go find the right part for. Yep I did it right and now after some months there is absolutely no corrosion on that terminal. The oem-negative terminal always was really bad with the mixed metal terminal ... a design flaw for sure. BUT I had the battery disconnected for at least an hour maybe two. |

From what I read perhaps the CDs in player can be removed now only by removing the player and going in to remove them some how. Perhaps removing the CDs will result in the CD-player then successfully initalizing (like booting up?) and then it will properly be connected (like networked?) with the Radio head. It's not uncommon for radios in car to have setups they lose when the battery is disconnected. I have a 97 BMW which requires a radio code when you pull it's battery, that's for a stupid theft protection. I did read about some network-connection for mopar but I never found the information. I figure the service dept may have the paper info that tells them what do. I figure my next step would be to act like I want to buy a 6-cd player from the dealership parts dept and see if I can get a look at the paper work in the box. Service is a WALL and they are not giving an estimate or any clue they know anything over the phone. So if I give them the car I wouldn't be surprised they tell me I need a new player or whatever and it will be $500 please. Sorry giving service a blank check isn't a good idea in my experience. Thanks for posting you have the same problem |

I have no idea. It was like that when I bought it.
Chrysler service told me they have no record of any PT's built requiring a security code for their radio / CD player. They said some of their cars have them - not the PT. I figure at this point - I'll put a new system in and consider it done. |

I don't think the radios require a security code since it never asked for one after the battery pull.
BUT ... I do think the radio's need to determine they have a CD player to communicate with. The radio head must either know a CD player is present because they are given a setting when installed or they know this because the CD player communicates once it successfully initializes at each power up. Either #1 or #2 ? #1 It could be that the CD player is jammed after having it's power pulled and isn't sending a "I am here and good to play" message to the radio head. In this case I just need to pull the CD player and clear the CDs and it will then work perhaps. Guess I need to do this somehow. #2 It could be that the radio head lost a manual setting "you have a CD player attached" when the battery was pulled and until that setting is manual given again it will never work again. This would be a secret setup procedure that we would like to know about. I did read somewhere about the CD players becoming jammed, nothing mentioned a loss of connection but might make sense. |

Have you found the problem yet? I had a disc freeze in the player a couple of days ago. Yesterday I pulled the unit completely out of the dash. (I couldn't get it to do anything with the CD player, eject, play, etc.). I opened it up and removed all 6 CD's. I re-assembled the unit and re-installed it to the car. I got the same thing as you. It didn't even give me the option of the CD mode. I had planned to remove it again today and look for the problem, but when I tried it this morning, IT WAS BACK! I believe the changer has to relocate to an operation mode before it will show up again as usable in the mode switch.
Try this. As you know, you can eject, and reload the CD's with the key off. Leave the key off, and try to eject, and/or reload ALL 6 CD SLOTS, one at a time. Maybe even do this a couple of times, just to get the changer to organize the proper play positions on the stack. If it doesn't work yet, walk away from it. Let it sit overnight. Then try it. I don't know if the changer requires time to initialize, but it's worth the time. Please let me know what you find, one way or the other. ![]() ps: mine is a 2004 also.
