I've heard that the 2001 cd players had a mid range eq adjustment, whereas the 2002 models those were dropped. Is there noticeable sound quality differences with the 2001 cd player?
Matt

It probaby won't matter, from what I remember, you can't swap out because the 2001 PT's use a slightly different wiring harness. Anyone know exactly what the difference is? It's been 8 years since I bought my 02 and talked to someone about the difference from the 01's.

Even w/ stock speakers there is a drastic difference? I may just pick one up.
What would you recomend, while keeping under 200$ or so?

Personally I found that there was a large improvement over the stock headunit. I like Pioneers, but you'll just have to shop around. The 3-band EQ on my stock 01 PT was decent, while the 2-band EQ on the 02 leaves much to be desired.. Just shop around and find one with a 5+ band EQ with some nice features (you may want to consider USB, satellite radio, etc.). I would personally advise that you use Crutchfield. Their prices are relatively decent, though they won't be the cheapest, but their customer support is well worth the difference. From my experience, they also provide you with all of the necessary items to correctly install whatever you purchase from them, with detailed instructions for your specific car.

I am personally a big fan of Alpine or kenwood units. Avoid Best buy if possible. Crutchfield is sometimes a little more but will include wiring harness and mounting kit. If you have a local shop sometimes you can haggle a bit on the price. Also E-bay but beware and always check feedback.

Good advice guys!
I've got a badass mp3/usb unit in my honda, but I want to sell that and buy a factory special edition mp3 player again for that. I'm pretty picky about aftermarket head units.. I like them to look like they should have came from the factory. So it's tough for me.
