Lightbulb Equalizer/ Amp installation guide

Hi,

I just got a 100 watt equalizer/ amp. that I want to install on my 2007 P.T Cruiser. (Metra AT-350E, 7 band adjustable equalizer)
I know all the steps up to how to get the original car stereo out. I also have the cables adapter for this model. I was able to match the exit cables, the ones that goes for rear left and right speakers and front left and right speakers but no the ones that goes to the left and right sound exits from the stereo.
The only cables left are:
Red=> 12 volt ignition/Acc
Yellow => 12 volt Bat/ memory
Black => Ground
Blue => Power antenna (which I don't have)
Orange =>Illumination
Brown => Phone mute
These color codes came from the cable adapter package. (Metra70-6502)
All help related to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A. R.

I'm not entirely sure what types of connections you've got on the back of your EQ/Amp, so it's hard to tell you how to wire it up.

If you're talking about the RCA cables (red, white), I'm fairly certain that there aren't any RCA outputs on the OEM headunit. (There aren't any on my OEM headunit from a 2001) You can buy adapters, however, that will do this, even from Metra (the company who manufactures the EQ/Amp you've got).

Metra Electronics - Products

If this isn't what you're asking or looking for, let us know.

Hope this helps.

Lightbulb Re: Equalizer/ Amp installation guide

Hi,

The RCA adapter is not the case, I am talking about the wire harness adapter for the PT Cruiser '07. That is the one with the color code I described before.
I was trying to attach a pic of what I have but I encountered a file size restriction. My pics are are to big to send them through this way.
The equalizer has the following cables:
The outlets for the speakers:
Rear left: Blue/Blue -black stripe
Rear right: Brown/ Brown-Black stripe
Front left: White/ White-black stripe
Front right: Yellow/ Yellow-black stripe

Outlets to the stereo:
Left: Green/ green-white stripe
Right:Gray/ gray-white stripe
Red: Power
Black Ground.

I hope this description gives you a better idea of how to help me.

Thank you.

A. R.

Okay, so just to clarify, you've wired your EQ/Amp up to your front and rear speakers, and had no problems in doing so, but now you're looking to find the wires that WOULD HAVE connected from the back of your headunit TO your speakers?

I'm just trying to understand your problem here. Like I said, without pictures, it's difficult to diagnose.

If the above is the case, you would simply wire the Amp/EQ in-line with your original speaker wires since like I said earlier, there are no RCA outputs on the stock headunit.

And also since you're amplifying the front AND rear speakers and it appears as if you only have two wires going FROM the headunit TO the Amp/EQ, you will have to splice/T-in the wires that go FROM the headunit TO the left and right wires on the Amp/EQ.

If you had a 4-channel amplifier, then you could wire each one individually, but from the information you're giving me, the amp you have only has two channels.

Here's a wiring diagram. I excluded speaker negatives for clarity, and used the colors you provided:

The wires you would have to T together (Where it says "Stock Speaker Outputs" in the diagram) would be from the headunit, Left Front-Left Rear and then Right Front-Right Rear which correspond with the following colors:

Left
Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Gray/Purple
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray/Yellow

Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Green/Purple
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green/Yellow

Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Green/Tan
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green/Gray

Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Green/Brown
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow/Gray

Again, if this isn't what you're looking for, let me know, I'll PM you my email address and you can email me your pictures and then I'll have a much better idea as to what's going on. I'll also resize it and post it here so others know what's going on.

Edit: I also realize I have the ground wire connected to the headunit-- it was a simple, quick draft.. haha
