I put in some new Speakers today and as soon as i turned up the volume all of them went dead. I do have a after market head unit and a sub the sub still works just no sound out of the speakers, all the fuses are fine I did not check the fuse box under the hood so im unsure of them.
Any thoughts on this? any help is greatly appreciated

I dont have a separate amp to the speakers Im guessing Im going to need one to run them tho. I had installed it using nylon butt connectors.
I rechecked every connection and cleaned and reinstalled the rear speakers after that it started working again tell there was a lot of bass then it all shut off again. The rear speakers I put in are 300w the head unit is a 200w could the speakers be trying to draw to much power forcing the unit to shut off? By under the hood i was referring to the second fuse box by the battery. |

Strange.
The speaker handling capacity doesn't mean that the speakers are always 'drawing' 300-watts. The measurement, like I said, is a capacity. The speakers you have will handle UP TO 300-watts, but will function just fine with anything underneath that. Might be a dumb question, but when you say 'it all shut off' are you referring to your headunit as well? Or just your speakers?

Just the speakers the unit still works fine also the sub still works just nothing out of the speakers. Today i found that if i leave one of the speakers unplugged then the system works fine but if i hook that one back up it all dies again. The only thing i can think of is theres a short in the speaker, so I'm going to return them I found that when they did work they sounded pretty crappy anyway.

In my experiences, it's typically just that the speakers 'blow' or just 'go bad', but I suppose that an electrical short could be the culprit. It would most likely trigger a shutoff mechanism on the headunit.
Another thought of mine.. how are your grounds?

My grounds are good I found that the PT kinda has a bad Ground so I ran another ground wire to the frame, that helped a lot with the sub.

Well, I hate to skate around problems, but to be completely honest, if you've got a subwoofer, your rear speakers are essentially useless anyway. :/
