Not a problem at all. Candyman will eventually stop in and weight in as well, and he may contradict everything I've said anyway.. haha, so we'll see what happens. I'm quite envious. I enjoy my 01 LE, but I desperately would like to trade up to a GT..

And no worries about the topic. We all bounce ideas off of one another-- that's why we're here.

in regards to what chris15 said about Dynamat or damping material in general.... if it takes a week to apply and still have issues, it's miss applied. Not to disparage your friend or his ability, it's possible the system was massive and the bass was too much for the car to handle

Anyway, your idea about the foam is on the right track but that is only part of the equation. The "wave guide" made out of foam will help some, but it doesn't stop the sheet metal in the door from "ringing" and coloring the sound. The main point of a spray-on or even a stick-on sound damping material (Dynamat, Hushmatt, etc.) is to absorb some vibration & add weight. This lowers the resonant frequency of the material it's applied to. The point is to stop the transfer of energy before it makes a noise you don't like. For more info, check out Sympathetic resonance

Well, in response to your post, yeah, when you pack 2 15's into the back of an RX7 and feed them a thousand watts each, I guess you're bound to have some sort of problem.

Secondly, I never stated that it would completely solve the issue, I just said that for half the cost of a single door kit, you can have a functional alternative that will improve the quality of sound inside of your car. I performed this on my car, as I previously stated, and I disagree with you. I hear absolutely no rattling, and the music inside of the car sounds exactly as it does on my home theater system. There is no loss of quality, and no "ringing" as you said. And after that comment, you basically restated everything I said earlier.

I was simply offering a more cost effective fix than to immediately jump to overpriced sound deadeners.

Hey their Guys,

Easy now, don't make me go get the PT Police to break you guys up now! Just kidding. My moneys on Chris.

Anyways, sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys. Been working on another project and popping in just long enough to really check things and run.

Now, I have the extreme Dynamat in my floor, and the foam like Chris was talking about in my doors, and trunk. Unless your doing way better than me financially, or you have a nice Stereo Shop that sponsors you then Dynamat is very expensive for what you get, and to me I just don't see that huge of a difference. Note: their is some difference, but like I said...not huge. The foam works great in the doors for me.

Since I was such a genius once upon a time and had to invert my subs because it looks so cool, I push quite a bit of air around my interior, and even with everything I got to keep things nice and tight, I still get things trying to vibrate loose, or I might find a little rattle once in a while. I am not 100% sure if its cause of my system pounding, or former lack of any suspension, but whatever the case, I went to the local Fabric store and bought some foam to back fill any panels which were hollow, and then on the rest of the panels which were possible targets for vibrations, as well as for that all annoying license plate I usually use either double sided sticky tape along the inside of the panel, Velcro also works, or also one sided Foam Tape like that used in putting on Camper Shells on puck ups can come in handy too. Sure it may sound a little hokey, but as long as everything is clean, in one place, and isn't rattling your ears off, who cares! It's really no different than 90% of the accessories on the market including Chrome that are are all also held on by the famous 3M Double Sided Sticky Tape Tape. Another thing I have actually seen, and it works surprisingly, is to pull your good carpeting up and either lay down another layer of insulation, or even a layer of cheap automotive grade carpeting to suppress road noise and many people swear by it! Sure its a project, but it might be a good cheap alternative.

Anyways sh10792,

My best advice if you want to deaden the sound in your ride, and have a little money to do it while doing your system, I would recommend like mine. Dynamatt in the floor, and foam in the doors and possibly trunk. If you are on a really tight budget, I the names of several other less expensive sound deadeners that are plenty decent. I just have to find them buried in a file.

Also, if you don't mind, where are you out here in Socal? I'm in Hemet, out about 15 miles north of Temecula, and am involved in most of all the local PT Clubs, Activities, Shows, Parts Shops, and more, and if you ever wanted to look into hanging out, or joining up with a Club, or kicking it in the So Cal PT Scene, please feel free to drop me a line, PM me, or my EMail is on the bottom under my sig. Its pretty fun, and you as well as anyone out here is always more than welcome to contact me anytime! We are always looking for new PT People to come hang out with us!

I hope that kinda sorta answered your question, and please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll ty my very best to answer them as best I can.

Go easy, and Illl catch yall later on.

No need.

I was only disagreeing about sound damping material being a waste of money. I don't believe it is. I tried to explain my point being it does what it's designed to do. I didn't mean to start an argument. I was only stating the facts as I know them. I'll put my money where my mouth is.

I'm jealous. I wish foam is all I needed.

Thanks everyone for a lot of great idea!! Nice to have a bunch of folks who have already been through the learning curve (or at least well ahead of me!) to ask questions.

Well, I ordered my parts from Crutchfield. Components in the front, but probably in the dash where the factory tweeters are for now. I have some lexan that I will use to make mounting plates, probably using the factory units as templates.

As luck would have it, Crutchfield was giving Dynamat speaker kits with speaker purchases over a certain value. So, I have 2 speaker kits coming. I will definitely try out the front doors, but not sure that putting them in the rear pillars will make any difference. This install will let me build a little confidence taking apart the interior panels, dash, and bezel. I won't be pumping a lot of air so I'll have some time to contemplate the approach to road noise.

Candyman, thanks for the invite. I am actually out in Orange/Anaheim area. Hemet is a bit of a haul but not too bad for special events. At the moment, my GT is pretty much factory. I'll start off with some audio improvements and then probably move to exahaust and perhaps the airbox mod. Interior wise, I'll need to preserve my room. It is still a full on utility/daily driver, so unfortunately, nothing quite so exotic as the inverted subs for me! Maybe I'll find a deal on one of the side compartment sealed subs and I'll just go way out there!

Thanks again for all the feedback and suggestions folks!

For those of you who have disassembled the dash and examined the existing factory tweeter, can it be removed cleanly from the mounting plate such that the plate could be used with a new tweeter? I assume also that I need to run some new wire for the front speakers since I do not want to use the existing filter for the factory tweeter. Any tips or hints on routing the speaker wire? By the way, I have an '05 GT. I am planning on also installing a Pioneer Premier head unit and start with just that. If I am unhappy with the power, I would then add an amp. I don't need things loud or booming bass, but clean and accurate.
Hey well i can say thatif you want to modify then cut the oldest tweeter out or go with mounting it up in the mirror sail trim or you
should do away with the dash speakers.
